Hurricane Larry affects Newfoundland, Canada - Severe weather, power outage

September 11, 2021: Hurricane Larry made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h in Canada today. Hurricane Larry has caused power outage to more than 10,000 customers mostly on the Avalon Peninsula, The Newfoundland Power confirmed. According to the Environment Canada, storm surge has been near the Burin Peninsula and Avalon Peninsula. As of 03:50 UTC today, Hurricane Larry is located about 135 km WSW of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Hurricane Laura kills 71, causes damage of 8.9 billion USD

September 5, 2020: Hurricane Laura, the strongest hurricane on record to make landfall in the U.S. state of Louisiana, claimed lives of 71 people and caused damage of around $8.9 billion. Hurricane Laura made landfall in southwest Louisiana at 1 a.m. on Aug. 27 as a Category 4 storm. Hurricane Laura killed 31 people in Haiti and four in the Dominican Republic. The storm caused the deaths of at least 36 people in the U.S.

November 10, 2017: At least 129 people are confirmed dead due to Hurricane Maria; 55 in Puerto Rico, 57 in Dominica, 5 in the Dominican Republic, 4 in the contiguous United States, 3 in Haiti, 2 in Guadeloupe, and 3 in the United States Virgin Islands. Hurricane Maria is regarded as the worst natural disaster on record in Dominica. Maria caused catastrophic damage and a major humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico.

Russia: Hurricane in Moscow kills 16, injures 168 others

"Eleven people died in Moscow and five others in the suburbs were killed as high winds and rain ripped through the city on Monday, felling trees, tearing off roofs and damaging more than 2,000 cars," CNN reported quoting the Investigative Committee.

October 14, 2016: Hurricane Nicole damaged roofs and uprooted trees in Bermuda, before moving out into the Atlantic Ocean. According to Bermuda Electric Light Company Ltd (BELCO), more than 27,000 households were left without power. Several schools, government offices and bank offices have been closed in Bermuda on October 14 to assess damage and conduct clean up.

NOAA publishes 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has published the 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook on March 22. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts three to six hurricanes developing between June 1 and the end of November. The Atlantic hurricane region includes the North Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. Next week, May 25-31, is National Hurricane Preparedness Week. Poland Hurricane 'Xaver' kills 5, injures 27

Hurricane Xaver with winds of around 100 km per hour and gusts of 130 km per hour claimed lives of at least five people in Poland, Xinhua reported. The victims include four on the roads when a car and a bus were crushed by falling trees in Lebork, Pomerania district in northern Poland. Around 23 people have been injured after a bus veered off the road and crashed into a tree, New Poland Express said. According to the Polskie Radio, other four people have been injured, including two in Silesia, one in Wielkopolska and one in Masovia.
