Hurricane Laura kills 71, causes damage of 8.9 billion USD

September 5, 2020: Hurricane Laura, the strongest hurricane on record to make landfall in the U.S. state of Louisiana, claimed lives of 71 people and caused damage of around $8.9 billion.

Hurricane Laura made landfall in southwest Louisiana at 1 a.m. on Aug. 27 as a Category 4 storm.

Hurricane Laura killed 31 people in Haiti and four in the Dominican Republic. The storm caused the deaths of at least 36 people in the U.S.
