Indonesia's Mount Lokon spews volcanic ash around 1,500 m high

Mount Lokon erupted 11:48 p.m. local time Saturday, spewing volcanic ash around 1,500 meters high, The Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) said. PVMBG has maintained Mount Lokon’s status at siaga (Alert Level 3) and people have been prohibited to enter the 2.5-kilometer radius from the volcano’s Tompaluan Crater.

At least two tremors rattled Nepal Sunday morning, Nepal Seismological Center (NSC) reported. According to the NSC, magnitude 4.3 aftershock at 03:09 am had its epicenter in Dhading. Another aftershock of magnitude 4.1 rattled Dolakha at 08:26 am.

North Korea flooding kills 40, affects thousands

Flooding triggered by heavy downpour has claimed lives of at least 40 people in North Korea, the International Federation of the Red Cross and North Korean media said. More than 11,000 people have been affected by the floods, which hit the northeastern city of Rajin, near the border with Russia and China, on Saturday and Sunday, Reuters reported quoting Hler Gudjonsson, a spokesman for the Red Cross in Beijing.

Hanumante River flood inundates temporary shelters for earthquake survivors in Bhaktapur, Nepal

Heavy downpour in Bhaktapur on Thursday has inundated at least 60 houses. The flooding caused by the swollen Hanumante river has flooded temporary shelter for earthquake survivors in the district . Flood water has affected Chymasingh, Jagati, Maheswori, Srijananagar, Sallaghari, Bhelukhel, Ram Mandir and Barahisthan area.

Second earthquake in a month hits Humla, Nepal

Magnitude 4.1 light earthquake hit Humla Wednesday afternoon at 01:32 pm, Nepal Seismological Center (NSC) reported. According to NSC, the quake's epicenter was located near Muchu. This is the second light earthquake in Humla, Nepal this month.

Tropical Storm Ignacio targets Hawaiian islands; Forecast to become hurricane on Thursday

A tropical depression in the East Pacific has strengthened into Tropical Storm Ignacio, which is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane later this week as it moves in a west to eventually west-northwest direction.  According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Ignacio was located 2,460km ESE of Hilo, Hawaii  at 2:00 pm PDT (21:00 UTC).

Tropical Storm Erika moving towards Leeward Islands; Tropical Storm Watches Issued

Tropical Storm Erika which formed late Monday night in the central Atlantic is moving towards the west near 20 mph (31 km/h).  At 11:00 am AST (15:00 UTC), Tropical Storm Erika was located 1,170 km E of the Leeward Islands . Erika is expected to remain a tropical storm and gather strength as it moves quickly to the west, National Hurricane Center (NHC) mentioned.

Tornado in Dubbo, Australia damages house, uproots trees

Tornado captured in Dubbo (Mel Sharkey/Stuff) A tornado in New South Wales town of Dubbo has damaged at least seven houses, scattered debris and uprooted trees. Roads were flooded across Sydney and the Illawarra, with the emergency services rescuing people stranded in cars after driving into floodwaters, Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Millions dollar worth of gold, silver found beneath Taupo Volcanic Zone in New Zealand

Millions of dollars’ worth of gold and silver have been located in the Taupo Volcanic Zone in New Zealand. According to a report published in the journal Geothermics, at least six deep reservoirs expected to yield high levels of gold and silver have been identified. High grade deposits of precious and other types of metals are said to dissolve in magma-heated water, or hot springs.

Typhoon Swan keeps Eastern China on high alert

Eastern China provinces have been kept on high alert for approaching typhoon Swan that may bring gales and rainstorms on Sunday night. The Fujian Provincial Meteorological Station has issued a yellow alert for the typhoon. Swan is expected to arrive at the East China Sea on Sunday evening, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Landslide in China's Yunnan Province kills 3, leaves 8 missing

At least three people died and eight people remained missing in a landslide in Yunnan Province of China.  According to the Xinhua News Agency , landslide disaster hit at about 7 p.m. on Saturday evening which buried a road in Funing County in Yunnan province. Five day track for Kilo (Central Pacific Hurricane Center) Hawaii Governor has issued an emergency proclamation for Kilo following the gradual strengthening of the storm over next couple of days. The Central Pacific Hurricane Center forecasts that Kilo will gradually strengthen over the next couple of days and become a tropical storm once again by Saturday night.

President Barack Obama signed a federal declaration of emergency for Washington state on Friday, authorizing the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate relief efforts in 11 counties and several Indian reservations hard hit by wildfires.

Typhoon Goni (Typhoon Ineng in Philippines) has claimed lives of at least four people in Luzon Island of Philippines on Friday. Three people died of landslide and another man died after being pinned by a tree, The Associated Press reported.

Landslide in Manikaran Saheb, Himachal Pradesh kills 8

Massive landslide in Manikaran Sahib Gurdwara of Himachal Pradesh , India has claimed lives of at least 8 people and injured 10 others. Injured people are having treatment in a zonal hospital at Kullu. "Eight bodies which were buried under huge boulders have been extricated while search is on for more," NDTV has written quoting, Rakesh Kanwar, Deputy Commissioner of Kullu.

At least four tremors of magnitude greater than 4 have been recorded in Dolakha in last five days, the Nepal Seismological Center (NSC) reported. According to the NSC, the latest aftershock of magnitude 4.8 was recorded in Gaurishankar Conservation area near Nepal-China border at 04:08 am Tuesday morning.

Cotopaxi volcano eruption in Ecuador evacuates 400 people

At least 400 people have been evacuated amid increasing activity in Cotopaxi volcano, near the capital Quito. Two minor explosions on Friday at Cotopaxi led to a precautionary evacuation. The volcanic eruptions have shot ash more than five kilometres into the sky.

Recent flooding in North Korea kills 21, leaves 9 missing

Recent flooding in Democratic People's Republic of Korea has claimed lives of at least 21 people and left nine others missing, the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said. Torrential rainfall between August 1 and 5 triggered flooding in South Hwanghae, South Hamgyong and North Hamgyong provinces.

Landslides kill 9 in Doti and Gulmi districts of Nepal

At least nine people died due to landslides in Doti and Gulmi districts, Nepal Police confirmed. Six people including five members of a single family died as landslide hit Daud VDC of Doti district on Monday night. One person injured at the site who is having treatment at Daud sub-health post.

At least two tremors rattled Kathmandu on Tuesday August 11, 2015, Nepal Seismological Center (NSC) reported. At 04:20 am, magnitude 3.7 aftershock hit Kirtipur-Panga area. Another aftershock of magnitude 4.3 was recorded in Kalimati area at 10:42 am. The epicenter was located near Department of Foreign Employment, in Kalimati area of Kathmandu.

Typhoon Soudelor kills 28 in China and Taiwan

Typhoon Soudelor has claimed lives of at least 28 people and left several more missing as it battered Taiwan and China over the weekend. According to China National Commission for Disaster Reduction, atleast 21 people died by typhoon-related impact in China. Fatalities are from Zhejiang, Fujian, Anhui and Jiangxi provinces of China. Flooding in Hinthada township, Ayeyarwaddy delta, Myanmar (AP Photo/Khin Maung Win)  Similarly, Typhoon Soudelor killed seven people and injured more than 400 people in Taiwan, Central Disaster Emergency Operation Center said. Chinese authorities have issued a grade-IV emergency response to Typhoon Soudelor in east China's Zhejiang Province on Sunday, Xinhua reported. Last week, Typhoon Soudelor hammered the island of Saipan in the Western Pacific ocean leaving trails of widespread damage. President Obama declared the Northern Mariana Island, including Saipan, under a State of Disaster on Thursday.

New fresh earthquake hits Humla, Nepal

Magnitude 4.0 light earthquake hit Humla at 18:36 UTC, Nepal Seismological Center reported. The epicenter was located near Hepka along Karnali River. This is the first fresh earthquake in Nepal in last two weeks.

Lanao del Norte province of Philippines under “preparedness status" — Flash flood affects 130 families

The Lanao del Norte province of Philippines has been placed under “preparedness status" as flash floods affected 130 families. Lanao del Norte Governor Mohammad Khalid Dimaporo has issued Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) Advisory No. 2 to the entire province. Under the state of preparedness status, provincial, municipal and barangay DRRMC shall sustain the 24-hour operation centers in their respective areas.

Myanmar flood kills 46 — Emergency declared; international aid appealed

Flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall have claimed lives of atleast 46 people and affected more than 200,000 people in 11 of the Myanmar's 14 states and divisions. The Burmese government has declared disaster zones for Chin State, Arakan State, Magwe Division and Sagaing Division. Authorities have declared "national disaster-affected regions".

Flash floods and mudslides in Macedonia kill 4

Flash floods and mudslides in western Macedonia have claimed lives of at least four people including a seven-year-old child. Natural disasters have damaged at least a dozen houses in Tetovo. The extent of the damage have been assessed.
