Mammoth Lakes earthquake today measured 4.0 in magnitude

Magnitude 4.0 light earthquake hit near Mammoth Lakes today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 17 km ESE of Mammoth Lakes, California. It was 4.4 miles deep.

It will have been well felt by the people of Mammoth Lakes, West Bishop, Dixon Lane-Meadow Creek, Bishop, Ahwahnee, Auberry, Clovis, Bonadelle Ranchos-Madera Ranchos, Yosemite Lakes, Tarpey Village and Oakhurst.

Mammoth Lakes earthquake and aftershocks in 1980 had injured at least nine people. Magnitude 6.2 earthquake was felt over a large area of California and western Nevada--from Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada, to the coast at Los Angeles and San Francisco.

No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported from Mammoth Lakes earthquake today.
