Strong earthquake in DR Congo kills two children

Two children are reported to be killed in Democratic Republic of the Congo. The two children died after the house they live in collapsed in Katana, near the airport in Bukavu.

congo_earthquake_epicenter_mapMagnitude 5.6 strong earthquake hit eastern Democratic Republic of Congo at 03:25 am local time, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

According to the USGS, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 35km (22mi) N of Cyangugu, Rwanda. It occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km.

The tremor was even felt in Rwanda and Burundi.

No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported.
