Flash floods and landslides in Peru damage houses

January 23, 2020: Flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall have affected the departments of Arequipa and Huanuco in Peru . Flash floods and landslides wreaked havoc in Uchumayo district damaging more than 80 homes. Roads have been closed in the departments of Lima, Ayacucho, and Moquegua. Two weeks ago, flooding killed two people in departments of Pasco and Puno.

Magnitude 8.0 earthquake in Peru kills 1, injures 18

Update 11:45 UTC One person died and at least 11 people injured in Peru. Another seven injured in neighboring Ecuador. According to the Peru's National Emergency Operations Center, five schools have been damaged, two temples and four health centers. Update 09:50 UTC According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake was of magnitude 8.0. The earthquake occurred as the result of normal faulting at an intermediate depth, approximately 110 km beneath the Earth's surface within the subducted lithosphere of the Nazca plate. Update 07:58 UTC According to Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, no Tsunami is expected from the earthquake. The earthquake has occurred at a greater depth causing no threat of Tsunami. Disastrous floods in Peru kill 72

March 18, 2017: At least 72 people have died and 263 others have been injured in disastrous floods in Peru. Heavy rainfall burst river banks, created mudslides, collapsed bridges and roads. The flooding has also destroyed 12,000 homes, 25 schools and eight hospitals or clinics.

Peru's Ubinas volcano triggers mudslides, blocks access to town

Ubinas volcano has spewed gases and ashes some 2,500 metres into the air triggering off a series of mudslides, Ukraine Today reported quoting Peru's Geological Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. According to Euro News, the resultant mudslides down the volcano’s slopes have blocked off access to the town of Ubinas.

The Ubinas volcano in Peru erupted on Wednesday morning causing a layer of ash to fall over nearby villages. According to Peru21, the eruption at  Ubinas volcano occurred at 4:24 a.m. Wednesday and spewed a column of ash over 2.5 km above the crater of the volcano causing ash fall on the villages of Escacha and Ubinas Valley. Peru declares emergency in Chosica as landslide kills 7

A state of emergency has been declared in Peruvian town of Chosica as landslide claimed lives of at least seven people and destroyed 65 houses. According to Reuters, six people are missing and 25 have been injured in the landslide disaster in Chosica. A 60-day emergency has been declared in the district of Lurigancho-Chosica by the Government of Peru.

Recent flooding in Peru kills 20, damages five schools

Recent flooding in Peru has claimed lives of at least 20 people, Sputnik reported quoting the country's civil defense agency. Torrential rains and floods in Peru have affected 22 of the country's 25 regions. Recent flooding in Peru has damaged more than 800 houses, with 14,500 buildings being partially damaged. According to the Telesur television, at least five schools are among the destroyed buildings.

Flooding in Andean Cusco region of Peru leaves 16,000 homeless, emergency declared

Flooding in Andean Cusco region of Southern Peru has made 16,000 people homeless, Xinhua reported. The Quillabamba River burst its banks following torrential downpours and caused flooding in the area. A state of emergency has been declared in the area and rescue teams have been send to help the people in disaster area. Very Strong earthquake near Acari, Peru injures 26

Update September 26, 2013 The news that 3 miners who were reported killed in the 4 horas mine in Caraveli (as reported by the authorities) is false. They were found alive as the management of the company reported later. At least 12 miners got injured in this mine. Another 14 people got injured in Caraveli. At least six people have been injured in a house collapse in Paucar del  Sara Sara in Ayacucho. Several schools in Acari, Palca, Lucanas province have been damaged. Ubinas volcano in Peru erupts for 5th time in two days

Ubinas volcano in Peru has erupted five times in less than 48 hours. Ubinas Volcano in Moquegua registered two small eruptions on the evening of September 1. Then three more eruptions occurred after that in Ubinas volcano. According to Peru This Week, Ubinas volcano in Peru send a column of volcanic gases and ash to a height of two kilometers. The Ubinas volcano explosions were purely phreatic, Volcano Discovery reported quoting the scientists from Instituto Geofísico del Perú (IGP). Officials confirmed the ash column does not pose a danger to people or livestock nearby. The Volcanological Observatory of the Institute (OVI) of Geology, Mining, and Metallurgy is investigating the area, Andina news agency reported. Peru snowstorm kills 6, emergency declared

Snowstorms in Peru have claimed lives of at least six people, local medias reported. More than 30,000 domestic animals including sheep, llamas and alpacas have also been killed. According to Peru This Week, around 12,000 families have been stranded due to snowstorm in Puno in Carabaya province of Peru. A state of emergency has been declared for much of the snowstorms region, located in the Andes mountains. Snowstorms have also affected the people in Bolivia and Paraguay.
