El Misti volcano eruption considered greatest risk in South America

Studies by Southern Volcano Observatory (OVS) has shown that the El Misti volcano in Peru is awake and emitting gases.

"El Misti volcano is currently considered the greatest risk in the South American country, as thousands of habitants reside near its crater," Peru This Week reported quoting Publimetro.

"The gases reached 500 meters and contained sulfuric acid, carbon and calcium," OVS engineers mentioned. However, there is no danger of instant hazardous volcanic eruption.

El Misti (Wawa Putina) is a stratovolcano located in southern Peru near the city of Arequipa. The last major eruption of El Misti was about 2000-2300 years ago.
