4.5 magnitude earthquake in Port Orford, Oregon today

November 30, 2019: Magnitude 4.5 earthquake has been recorded in Port Orford, Oregan today at 05:45 pm. The earthquake's epicenter was located 6 km NE of Port Orford, Oregon . The earthquake occurred at 17 km depth. The earthquake in Port Orford was followed by an aftershock at around 8:58 p.m. It was of magnitude 3.5. According to the Curry County Emergency Management, there is no tsunami threat with this earthquake.

5.0 magnitude earthquake shakes Kathmandu, epicenter in Sindhupalchowk

November 27, 2019: Tremor has been felt in capital Kathmandu following magnitude 5.0 moderate earthquake in Sindhupalchowk district, Nepal Seismological Center reported. According to the Nepal Seismological Center, the earthquake occurred at 10:08 pm with epicenter in Phulpingkot area of Sindhupalchowk district. No damage or injuries has been reported. Nepal lies in high seismic hazard zone. The April 2015 Nepal earthquake killed nearly 9,000 people and injured nearly 22,000.

Floods in Congo's capital Kinshasa kill 41

November 26, 2019: Flooding and landslides caused by the heavy rainfall have claimed lives of at least 41 people in the DR Congo capital Kinshasa. Recent flooding in Kinshasa collapsed a bridge connecting the districts of Lemba and Ngaba and destroyed another in the district of Kisenso.

Minor earthquake in Jamaica today - Felt in Kingston and St Andrew

November 26, 2019: Magnitude 3.2 earthquake has been felt in sections of Kingston and St. Andrew today at 7:57 am, Jamaica's Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) confirmed. The earthquake’s epicenter was located near Duhaney Park. The earthquake in Jamaica today occurred at 21.6 km depth. No damage or injuries have been reported. An earthquake of magnitude 7.5 rattled Port Royal, Jamaica in 1692. The earthquake triggered Tsunami and caused most of the city to sink below sea level. Around 5,000 people were died in the disaster .

Albania's biggest earthquake in 40 yrs kills 31, injures 658

Update 2019/11/27, 13:15 UTC -The death toll has risen to 31. Atleast 658 have been injured. -Major damages reported in the port city of Durrës and the town of Thumane. -A national day of mourning has been declared in Albania and neighboring Kosovo -It was the largest to hit Albania in forty years. Flooding in Greece kills two tourists

November 25, 2019: Two people have been killed and hundreds of homes have been flooded following an overnight storm in Greece . Bodies of two tourists have been recovered near the port of Antirio, 250 kilometers (155 miles) west of Athens, The National Herald reported. The highway linking the Greek capital to the western port city of Patras have been closed following the mudslides caused by heavy rainfall.

Hulimavu Lake flood inundated 800 houses in Bengaluru

November 24, 2019: Eight hundred houses have been inundated on Sunday afternoon, after the bund of Hulimavu lake off Bannerghatta Road breached, The Hindu reported. Hulimavu lake water flooded houses at Krishna Layout, DLF Road, Saraswathipura, Avani Sringeri Nagar, Royal Residency Layout, and BTM Layout. According to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), around 193 people have been evacuated to safety. The BBMP and Fire and Emergency Services and Quick Response Teams are carrying out the relief work .

Flooding in France kills two, leaves two missing

November 25, 2019: Flooding and mudslides caused by heavy rainfall has claimed lives of two people and leaves two missing in France. According to the French national weather service Meteo France, the area absorbed the equivalent of two months of average rainfall in 24 hours. In France , the Nice airport was briefly closed Saturday, The Weather Channel reported. Also in Italy, a 30-meter section of highway along a viaduct in coastal city of Savona has been collapsed. In Italy, rescuers are searching for a woman swept away by the surging Bormida river in the north.

Cyclone Rita forms between Solomons and Vanuatu

November 24, 2019: The South Pacific cyclone season's first storm named Rita has formed between Solomon Islands and Vanuatu . According to the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-Hazards Department, at 5pm local time, the low pressure near Solomon Islands was named Tropical Cyclone Rita as it developed into a category one system. Cyclone Rita was located about 405 km NE of Torres and 400 km NNE of Sola, an island in the far north of Vanuatu, Radio New Zealand reported. Rita is the first tropical cyclone of the Season 2019-2020. New Zealand is typically affected by one ex-tropical cyclone per year.

Landslide in West Pokot, Kenya kills 24

November 23, 2019: Landslides caused by severe weather have claimed lives of at least 24 people in in West Pokot county, Kenya. Seven children died in the landslide disaster and severely affected Nyarkulian and Parua villages of Kenya. According to the Kenya Red Cross, in Mikinduri, Meru County, a number  of houses have been reportedly swept away after river Thanantu broke it's banks.

Lightning in Goromonzi, Zimbabwe kills three school children

November 21, 2019: Lightning in Goromonzi, Mashonaland East region of Zimbabwe has claimed lives of three school children.  The lightning struck the children of the three Early Childhood Development (ECD) from Rusike Primary School at the time of returning back from school. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe's Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has issued a flood warning for the country's southern provinces for Wednesday. According to MSD, parts of Manicaland, Matabeleland South, Masvingo Provinces, as well as southern areas of Midlands Province, are forecast to receive heavier rains in excess of 50 mm in 24 hours. According to the Meteorological Department, lightning strikes normally kill up to 100 people each year, mostly rural children. Zimbabwe is even cited in the Guinness Book of World Records as the country where a single bolt of lightning claimed its largest number of victims. Magnitude 5.7 earthquake in Bajhang rattles Nepal and India

November 19, 2019: Magnitude 5.7 strong earthquake has been recorded in Bajhang district of Nepal at 07:15 pm local time. According to the Nepal Seismological Center, the earthquake's epicenter was located in Pauwagadhi area of Khaptad National park. However, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported magnitude 5.3 with epicenter 21 km far from Dipayal region of Far Western Nepal. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km. Light to weak tremor of MMI III-IV was felt across state 5 of Nepal. It was well felt in Kailali, Kalikot, Darchula, Dailekh, Bajura, Achham and Nepalgunj area.  People rushed out of their houses in fear as the tremors continued for over 3 seconds. The tremor was also felt in Lucknow and Delhi NCR region of India . Last week, tremor was also felt in Far Western Nepal after magnitude 4.5 earthquake with epicenter in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India . 

Was there an earthquake in Ukiah, California today?

November 19, 2019: Yes, tremor from an earthquake of magnitude 3.2 has been reported in Ukiah, CA today at 8:03 p.m. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter was located 2 km NW of Talmage, California and 2.3 km E of Ukiah, CA. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 1 km.  People of Ukiah felt light shaking with MMI IV. Also the weak tremor was felt in Redwood Valley. No preliminary damage or injured have been reported.

Flooding in Venice, Italy kills 2 — State of emergency declared

November 15, 2019: The Italian government has declared a state of emergency in Venice after recent flooding claimed lives of two people. Two people died in the small island of Pellestrina.  Italian Government has allocated 20 million euros to the city and the surrounding areas affected by the flooding to support the first post-emergency intervention.

Cyclone Bulbul kills 32 in India and Bangladesh

November 14, 2015:  Cyclone Bulbul has left a trail of death and destruction, claiming lives of at least 32 people in India and Bangladesh. Cyclone Bulbul killed 10 people and affected at least 2.73 lakh families in different parts of the West Bengal, India causing the suspension of operation for 12 hours at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. According to the Sate Disaster Management, at least 2,473 houses were destroyed and another 26,000 were partially damaged in the cyclone in the coastal districts along the Bay of Bengal. At least 22 people died in seven coastal districts of Bangladesh. Cyclone Bulbul made landfall between Sagar Islands of West Bengal and Khepupara in Bangladesh. More than 1.8 million people in the vulnerable Bangladeshi coastal districts were evacuated to 4,071 cyclone shelters.

4.5 magnitude earthquake hits Uttarakhand, tremor also felt in Nepal

November 12, 2019: Tremor has been felt in Uttarakhand area of India and Far-western region of Nepal after magnitude 4.5 earthquake hit the area Tuesday morning. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the epicenter was located in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. The earthquake occurred at 07:30 am local time. However, Nepal Seismological center has recorded magnitude 4.6 earthquake and reported that the tremor was even felt in Darchula, a region located in Far-western Nepal. The epicenter was located near Dwali, SW of Lipulek. Currently, there is controversy on Nepal-India border after the new map of India kept Kalapani and Lipulek in its territory.

Flooding in Derbyshire, England kills 1

November 9, 2019: A woman has been dead in the flood water in Derbyshire caused by heavy rainfall in 24 hours than it normally receives in a single month. Derbyshire and South Yorkshire have been worst hit by the floods. More than 100 flood warnings are in place across England .   River Derwent burst its banks leading to the evacuation of the people.

Magnitude 5.9 earthquake in Iran kills 6, injures 345

November 8, 2019: At least five people have been killed and 345 others have been injured after magnitude 5.9 earthquake in north-western Iran. According to the Iran's Seismological Center, the earthquake occurred at 2:17 a.m. local time in Iran's East Azerbaijan Province. The earthquake occurred at 8 km depth. The epicenter was located 115 km WNW of Tabriz, East Azerbaijan, Iran. The Red Crescent  is supporting the affected people by providing emergency shelter and distributing food & relief items. Three earthquakes recorded in Jamnagar, Gujarat within 24 hrs

November 4, 2019: Three earthquake tremors have been felt within 24 hours in Jamnagar and surrounding areas of Gujarat on Monday. The strongest earthquake was of magnitude 3.7 which was recorded around 07:51 pm. The tremor lasted for about 3-4 seconds. Before that, around 05:00 pm, a minor earthquake of magnitude 1.9 was recorded. However, this earthquake wasn't experience by the most people of Jamnagar due to very less intensity. Around magnitude 2.9 earthquake was recorded around 08:30 pm. The tremor was well felt by the people of Jamnagar and also by the residents of Kalawad and Lalpur . According to the locals, from last two weeks, the earthquake tremors have been continuously felt in Jamnagar area of Gujarat, India . No preliminary damage or injures have been reported.

Incessant rains trigger floods in Iran, kills 2

November 3, 2019: Heavy rains caused chaos in Iran claiming lives of two people and left one missing. According to the Red Crescent Organization, two people died in floods in Torbat Jam township. Another one person is reported to be missing in Mazanderan province of Iran. Heavy rains and floods have affected provinces of Gorgan, Mazanderan, Radio Farda reported.

Typhoon Matmo injures 14 in Vietnam

November 1, 2019: Typhoon Matmo has injured fourteen people and left one person missing in Vietnam. According to the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Typhoon Matmo has destroyed 179 houses and damaged 2,314 others in the provinces of Quảng Ngãi, Bình Định, Phú Yên, Gia Lai and Thừa Thiên Huế. The typhoon has now weakened into a low-pressure system and entered Cambodia.

Flooding in Somalia kills 10, displaces 270,000

November 1, 2019:  Recent flooding in Somalia has claimed lives of 10 people and displaced more than 270,000, the United Nations said. A boat capsized and claimed lives of 10 people when a river overflowed in Beledweyne town of central Somalia. Rain and floods are forecast to continue for November.

Landslide in Kilembe valley of Uganda kills 3 children

October 31, 2019: Three children died during a house collapse caused by a landslide in western Uganda. According to the Uganda Red Cross Society, the landslide disaster occurred in Kilembe valley of Kasese district.
