Mexico: Tropical Storm Beatriz kills 3 in Oaxaca

June 2, 2017: Heavy rainfall and landslides caused by tropical storm Beatriz claimed lives of three people in parts of Oaxaca, Mexico. According to the Mexico News Daily , landslide damage has been reported at 16 places on state highways, including Huajuapan-Juxtlahuaca, Teotitlán-Cuicatlán, Oaxaca-Tehuantepec, and in various locations on the coast highway, No. 200.

Two earthquake tremors felt in Delhi, NCR

June 2, 2017: Two earthquakes hit Haryana on Friday morning, tremors of which were felt in Delhi and adjoining areas of the National Capital Region (NCR). According to the India Meteorological Department, the epicenter of the first earthquake of magnitude 5.0 on the Richter Scale was located in Rohtak district in Haryana.

Cyclone Mora kills 203 in Sri Lanka, leaves 96 others missing

Flooding in Sri Lanka (Xinhua News Agency) June 2, 2017: Cyclone mora caused massive flooding and landslides throughout Sri Lanka claiming lives of atleast 203 people and left 96 others missing. According to the Disaster Management Centre, more than 400,000 people have been affected by the severe rains and strong winds that started on 24 May, 2017. The recent flooding is the worst to hit the island since May 2003, when 250 people were killed and 10,000 homes destroyed. More than 600,000 people are currently temporarily homeless after the landslides and floods hit Sri Lanka.

Cyclone Mora kills 9 in Bangladesh

May 30, 2017: At least nine people died and thousands of houses were destroyed as severe cyclonic storm mora hit the southwest districts of Bangladesh. Cyclone mora made landfall in the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar coastline with gusty wind at the speed of 146kmph, Dhaka Tribune reported.

Russia: Hurricane in Moscow kills 16, injures 168 others

Hurricane damage at Alexander Golod's pyramid in Istrinsky District, Moscow (CNN) May 30, 2017: At least 16 people died and 168 others injured in a hurricane that hit Russia’s capital Moscow and the adjacent areas. "Eleven people died in Moscow and five others in the suburbs were killed as high winds and rain ripped through the city on Monday, felling trees, tearing off roofs and damaging more than 2,000 cars," CNN reported quoting the Investigative Committee.

May 31, 2017: A rumor has spread by "End Times Signs-News & Conspiracy" YouTube channel claiming the world to end on May 31, 2017 by massive earthquake. "The End Is Near-Sun Will Sleep & Earth Will full of Ice Make You Scare May 31,2017?," a message is written in the description. The video – which has been watched a million times, contains just a bunch of videos of natural disasters with specific date but no any justification. Can anyone predict earthquakes? According to the Associated Press, more than one million tons of rock and dirt buried a .25 stretch of Highway 1 under 40-feet of debris.

M 3.8 earthquake felt in Fairbanks, Alaska today

May 8, 2017: Magnitude 3.8 light earthquake has been recorded in Alaska with epicenter located 59 km NNE of Badger and 60 NE of Fairbanks. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake's epicenter was located at a shallow depth of 9 km.

Flash floods on Indonesia’s Java island kill 13 villagers

May 2, 2017: Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall have claimed lives of 13  people in Indonesia's main Java Island.  According to the local Disaster Management Agency, flooding in Magelang district of Central Java damaged around 71 houses, forcing about 50 families to take shelter in mosques and relatives' houses.

Cyclone Donna forms NE of Vanuatu, poses no threat to Fiji

May 3, 2017: Pacific forecasters have named a Category 1 cyclone as Donna which formed this evening northeast of Vanuatu, Donna. Fiji Meteorological Service senior forecaster Stephen Meke said the system was forecast to move over Vanuatu within the next two days.

Mud collapse in Sarlahi, Nepal kills 4

April 30, 2017: At least four people died and three others injured after a mud collapse on the bank of Banke River in Sarlahi district of Nepal. The local police have identified the victims as Rammati Mahato, Pabita Devi Mahato, Abhisekh Mahato and Anshu Kumari Mahato including two children.

China launches new agriculture insurance for natural disasters

April 27, 2017: China is planning to launch a new type of agriculture insurance to compensate crop yield losses resulting from natural disasters in about 200 counties. According to The State Council , the counties will be chosen from China’s 13 major grain production provinces including Hebei, Heilongjiang, Anhui and Henan. The insurance will be offered to family farms, large scale growers and farmers’ cooperatives, covering the costs of agricultural materials, fertilizers, and land use fees for planting rice, wheat and corn.
