June 4, 2017: An earthquake tremor has been felt in Goa today. The tremor was the result of magnitude 4.8 earthquake with its epicenter located in Maharashtra's Koyna region of India. The tremor was well felt at Porvorim, Old Goa and Margao. The earthquake occurred at 11:44 pm at a shallow depth of 10 km.

June 2, 2017: Two earthquakes hit Haryana on Friday morning, tremors of which were felt in Delhi and adjoining areas of the National Capital Region (NCR). According to the India Meteorological Department, the epicenter of the first earthquake of magnitude 5.0 on the Richter Scale was located in Rohtak district in Haryana.

Flooding in Sri Lanka (Xinhua News Agency) June 2, 2017: Cyclone mora caused massive flooding and landslides throughout Sri Lanka claiming lives of atleast 203 people and left 96 others missing. According to the Disaster Management Centre, more than 400,000 people have been affected by the severe rains and strong winds that started on 24 May, 2017. The recent flooding is the worst to hit the island since May 2003, when 250 people were killed and 10,000 homes destroyed. More than 600,000 people are currently temporarily homeless after the landslides and floods hit Sri Lanka.

Hurricane damage at Alexander Golod's pyramid in Istrinsky District, Moscow (CNN) May 30, 2017: At least 16 people died and 168 others injured in a hurricane that hit Russia’s capital Moscow and the adjacent areas. "Eleven people died in Moscow and five others in the suburbs were killed as high winds and rain ripped through the city on Monday, felling trees, tearing off roofs and damaging more than 2,000 cars," CNN reported quoting the Investigative Committee.

May 2, 2017: Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall have claimed lives of 13 people in Indonesia's main Java Island. According to the local Disaster Management Agency, flooding in Magelang district of Central Java damaged around 71 houses, forcing about 50 families to take shelter in mosques and relatives' houses.

April 27, 2017: China is planning to launch a new type of agriculture insurance to compensate crop yield losses resulting from natural disasters in about 200 counties. According to The State Council , the counties will be chosen from China’s 13 major grain production provinces including Hebei, Heilongjiang, Anhui and Henan. The insurance will be offered to family farms, large scale growers and farmers’ cooperatives, covering the costs of agricultural materials, fertilizers, and land use fees for planting rice, wheat and corn.
