7.2 earthquake today in Sarangani triggers tsunami warning

April 29, 2017: A strong earthquake of magnitude 7.2 occurred 53 km SW of Sarangani, Davao Occidental at 04:23 am Philippine Standard Time (PST) prompting Tsunami warning in different countries. "Waves reaching up to 1 meter above normal tide levels are possible in the Philippines, while some coastlines in Indonesia, Malaysia and Palau could expect waves up to 30 centimeters higher than usual," the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

2.8 magnitude earthquake in Mankato, Minnesota today!

April 25, 2017: People in Mankato, Minnesota claimed of an earthquake felt on Tuesday morning, showing immediate reactions on social medias. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the tremor was recorded 2 km N of Mankato, Minnesota at 16:02 UTC which was actually caused by the quarry blast.

April 8, 2017: Four earthquakes rattle Mabini, Batangas, Philippines

April 8, 2017: Four strong earthquakes, including one measuring magnitude 6, rattled Batangas province located in the Calabarzon region in Luzon, Philippines.  According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the first tremor of magnitude 5.6 struck at 3:07 p.m. with epicenter located two kilometers northwest of Mabini, Batangas. It was followed by magnitude 6 earthquake at 12 km northwest of Mabini, two minutes later.

Indonesian landslide kills 4, leaves more than 30 missing

April 6, 2017: At least four people have been confirmed dead and more than 30 others have been missing after a landslide struck Indonesia's Java island. According to Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, the landslide stretched 1.5 kilometers long which engulfed farmers harvesting ginger in Banaran village in East Java province's Ponorogo district.

Colombia Mudslide: 254 dead, 400 injured in Mocoa

April 3, 2017: Flash flooding and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in the city of Mocoa, Putumayo, Colombia have claimed lives of at least 254 people and injured more than 400 people. President Juan Manuel Santos has declared a state of emergency in the region. More than 1,000 emergency personnel, including soldiers and local police have been deployed to help the rescue efforts.

Two dead as Cyclone Debbie sweeps along Australia’s east coast

March 31, 2017: Two people have been confirmed dead in flooding as Cyclone Debbie swept along Australia’s east coast, causing six large rivers to reach major flood levels. A woman died due to flooding in Burringbar, south of Murwillumbah in NSW. The body of a second woman was found in a river in the NSW Hunter Valley.

Avalanche in Japan kills 8, injures 40 others

March 28, 2017: An avalanche in ski slopes in Japan has claimed lives of at least seven high school students and a teacher. The avalanche occurred early on Monday near Nasu in Tochigi prefecture, 120km (75 miles) north of Tokyo.

Cyclone Debbie prompts 100 school closures in Australia

March 26, 2017: The Department of Education has shut at least 139 schools and early childhood education and care service in preparation for Cyclone Debbie. Around 74 public schools have been closed in preparation for Cyclone Debbie. Also, 26 catholic and independent school have been shut down. Apart from that, 39 early childhood education and care service have been also closed.

Angola floods kill 11, leave thousands homeless

March 24, 2017: Deadly floods triggered after heavy rainfall in Angola have claimed lives of at least 11 people and left thousands homeless. Heavy rainfall hit northern parts of Angola between Tuesday afternoon and Thursday destroying about 700 houses.

Disastrous floods in Peru kill 72

March 18, 2017: At least 72 people have died and 263 others have been injured in disastrous floods in Peru. Heavy rainfall burst river banks, created mudslides, collapsed bridges and roads. The flooding has also destroyed 12,000 homes, 25 schools and eight hospitals or clinics.

FEMA urges Louisianans to buy flood insurance

"As the spring rainy season approaches, Louisiana homeowners, renters and business owners are urged to purchase a policy through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)," Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) mentioned in its news release issued on March 7, 2017. NFIP provides affordable flood insurance to homeowners, condo owners, business owners and renters.

Earthquake in Karachi today!

Update 8:10 pm PKT No official earthquake information has been reported. However, people of Karachi clearly heard a loud explosion like sound with rumbling of ground. We will update the news as the official information comes out. Tremor was well felt in Karachi's Defence and Clifton areas. Floods in Zimbabwe kill 246, injure 128

March 4, 2017: Floods in Zimbabwe which started in December last year have claimed lives of 246 people, injured 128 people and made 2000 others homeless. The state-owned Herald newspaper reported that the Zimbabwean government has launched an international humanitarian appeal and seeking in excess of $100m to ease the burden the floods have brought. A national disaster has been declared. According to the Minister for local government Saviour Kasukuwere, floods have damaged 74 schools and burst 70 dams. 

Two moderate tremors recorded in Ramechhap, Nepal

February 27, 2017: At least two moderate earthquake have been recorded in Ramechhap district of central Nepal in less than an hour. The first earthquake was of magnitude 4.6 at 9:22 am. Another magnitude 4.7 moderate earthquake hit Ramechhap district of central Nepal at 10:06 am local time Monday morning. According to the Nepal Seismological Center, both were  aftershocks of 2015 Gorkha earthquake . The epicenter was located east of Manthali at a shallow depth of 10 km. No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported. At least 478 aftershocks of magnitude 4 and greater have been recorded since April 2015.

M4.4 tremor hits Dolakha, Nepal

February 4, 2017: An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 hit Lapilang area of Dolakha district at 5:58pm Saturday evening. According to the Nepal Seismological Center, the epicenter was located SE of Kalinchowk Bhagwati temple. Last earthquake in Dolakha was around four months ago, on October 12, 2016. It is an aftershock of 2015 Gorkha earthquake . At least 476 aftershocks of magnitude 4 and greater have been recorded since the deadly earthquake.

Flash floods in Balochistan, Pakistan kill 3

January 24, 2017: At least three people died including a woman after heavy rainfall triggered flash floods in Balochistan region of Pakistan. Five people were also injured after roof of a house collapsed in Kharotabad. Balochistan government has issued travel advisory as more rainfall is forecast in the region.
