April 25, 2017: People in Mankato, Minnesota claimed of an earthquake felt on Tuesday morning, showing immediate reactions on social medias.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the tremor was recorded 2 km N of Mankato, Minnesota at 16:02 UTC which was actually caused by the quarry blast.
The tremor was the result of controlled blast between the Minnesota River and 3rd Avenue on the northwest side of the city. The tremor originated in a Mankato quarry when Jordan Sands conducted a routine blast of silica sands.
The tremor was felt as far away as South Dakota and Rochester.
Jordan Sands conducts these blasts regularly, more than 40 times this year, Fox9 reported.
The City of Mankato hasn't received any report of damage or injuries from this incident.
