4.3 magnitude earthquake shakes Cholame and Paso Robles, California

December 18, 2019: Magnitude 4.3 earthquake has been recorded in California today at 10:29 am local time with epicenter located 11 km far from Cholame. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter was located at 6 km depth. Tremor was felt in San Miguel, Cholame, Shandon, Avenal, Creston, Paso Robles, Coalinga, Templeton, Atascadero, San Ardo and Bradley, California.

Small earthquake recorded in Newport, Rhode Island

December 2, 2019: A small earthquake has been recorded near Newport, Rhode Island , Sunday evening at 06:46 pm, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The earthquake was of magnitude 2.0 on richter scale with epicenter about 2.5 miles southeast of Newport, R.I. Weak tremor was felt in New Port, Rhode Island area. According to the Northeast States Emergency Consortium , a total of 34 felt earthquakes have been centered in Rhode Island since the first known shock on August 25, 1776. Of these felt earthquakes, only one caused some slight damage.  That event took place at 12:20 pm on June 10, 1951 and had a magnitude of 4.6.   The earthquakes with magnitude of 2.5 or less are not usually felt, though they can be recorded by a seismograph. 

4.5 magnitude earthquake in Port Orford, Oregon today

November 30, 2019: Magnitude 4.5 earthquake has been recorded in Port Orford, Oregan today at 05:45 pm. The earthquake's epicenter was located 6 km NE of Port Orford, Oregon . The earthquake occurred at 17 km depth. The earthquake in Port Orford was followed by an aftershock at around 8:58 p.m. It was of magnitude 3.5. According to the Curry County Emergency Management, there is no tsunami threat with this earthquake. 

Was there an earthquake in Ukiah, California today?

November 19, 2019: Yes, tremor from an earthquake of magnitude 3.2 has been reported in Ukiah, CA today at 8:03 p.m. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter was located 2 km NW of Talmage, California and 2.3 km E of Ukiah, CA. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 1 km.  People of Ukiah felt light shaking with MMI IV. Also the weak tremor was felt in Redwood Valley. No preliminary damage or injured have been reported.

Small earthquake recorded in New York today

October 29, 2019: A small earthquake of magnitude 1.3 has been recorded in New York, the United States Geological Survey reported. According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at 08:09 pm. The epicenter was located at 4 km depth. The earthquake's epicenter was located about 1.5 km E of Mamaroneck, New York, United States . No damage is expected from this earthquake. Tropical Storm Olga causes damages, cancels flights

Update October 27, 2019 at 03:45 am UTC Tropical Storm Olga lost steam in the Gulf of Mexico and has been downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone early Saturday morning. The hurricane center is no longer monitoring the storm.  Meanwhile far out over the Atlantic Ocean, Tropical Storm Pablo has formed late Friday afternoon. October 26, 2019: Tropical Storm Olga has formed in the Gulf of Mexico bringing floods and flights cancellations. Dozens of flights were canceled or delayed at New Orleans’ main airport.  Several trees have been downed. The fallen tree caused significant damage to Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton’s home, the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reported . According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC), coastal flooding is possible across portions of the northern Gulf coast. A wind advisory remained in force for eastern Mississippi. MyShake earthquake app to send earthquake early warning in California

October 18, 2019: With the help of MyShake app , all Californians will be able to receive warnings before the major earthquakes. Ground motion sensors from across the state will be used to detect earthquakes and the notifications will be sent out to give Californians a second to tens of seconds earlier to take precautions. The MyShake app is now available for download to iOS and Android devices which allows earthquake warning messages to reach Californians statewide. Earthquake early warning works because communications networks can receive and send messages faster than seismic waves travel. Earthquake early warning system can warn of quakes as much as a few minutes before they strike. Countries with such systems include Mexico, Japan, and the United States, where the most advanced system is California's state-run ShakeAlert . October 17, 2019: The annual Great ShakeOut earthquake drill will take place Oct. 17 at 10:17 a.m. across the United States . The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region III office has urged the people to participate and learn the simple but critical safety steps to preparing for and staying safe during an earthquake. The Great ShakeOut is the largest earthquake drill worldwide and people need to practice Drop, Cover, and Hold  to survive and recover quickly from the next big earthquake , FEMA mentioned in its news release . Magnitude 4.5 earthquake rattles Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek areas

October 15, 2019: A magnitude 4.5 earthquake rattled the San Francisco Bay Area at 10:33 p.m. today morning, with the epicenter in Pleasant Hill areas. Tremor was well felt in the Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek and Concord areas. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at 15 km depth. Weak shaking was also felt in San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose. Magnitude 3.4 earthquake in Alum Rock, San Jose

October 10, 2019: A magnitude 3.4 earthquake hit near the Alum Rock neighborhood of San Jose early Wednesday morning. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake's epicenter was located 8.5 km (5.3 mi) WSW of Alum Rock, California. The earthquake occurred a depth of 9.3 km. The tremor was well felt in San Jose and Milpitas.

Tropical Storm Barry expected to be Hurricane, poses threat to Gulf Coast of the United States

July 12, 2019: Tropical Storm Barry is expected to become hurricane by landfall on Saturday with dangerous storm surge, heavy rains and wind conditions across the north-central gulf coast. According to the National Hurricane Center and Central Pacific Hurricane Center, a hurricane warning is in effect for Intracoastal city to Grand Isle. The tremor was felt in Templeton, Paso Robles, Atascadero, Cayucos, Cambria, Los Osos, San Simeon, Bradley CA.

March 29, 2019: Magnitude 2.9 weak earthquake has been recorded in California with epicenter located 5km far from Vallejo, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported. According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 2 km. The epicenter was located 6 km W of Lower Lake and 27 km SE of Lakeport. Emergency declaration as flooding in Tennessee kills 3

February 25, 2019: A state of emergency has been declared in Tennessee as severe flooding claimed lives of at least three people this month. One man drowned in Knoxville after becoming trapped in his car when he drove onto an inundated roadway. A man died in Hawkins County, northeastern Tennessee, when his pickup truck slid down an embankment during a mudslide. Third fatality occurred in the central part of the state, just west of Nashville. Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) declared a state of emergency Saturday due to rising flood waters.

February 19, 2019: The National Weather Service in Charleston was flooded with an earthquake felt reports in Charleston South Carolina area at shortly after 4 p.m.  Earthquake felt reports were mainly reported from Charleston, North Charleston, Summerville, Awendaw, Goose Creek, Johns Island, Kiawah, James Island, Daniel Island and Moncks Corner areas. February 18, 2019: An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 has been recorded in Anchorage, Alaska today at 08:02 local time. According to the United States Geological center (USGS), the earthquake's epicenter was located just 20 km N of Anchorage. The tremor was widely felt in Anchorage, Houston, Palmer, Eagle River,  No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported from Anchorage earthquake.
