Magnitude 4.5 earthquake rattles Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek areas

October 15, 2019: A magnitude 4.5 earthquake rattled the San Francisco Bay Area at 10:33 p.m. today morning, with the epicenter in Pleasant Hill areas.

Tremor was well felt in the Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek and Concord areas.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at 15 km depth. Weak shaking was also felt in San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose.

USGS also mentioned that more earthquakes than usual (called aftershocks) will continue to occur near the mainshock. According to the earthquake forecast, over the next 1 week there is a 2 % chance of one or more aftershocks that are larger than magnitude 4.5.
