Dust storm, heavy rain cause damage in Delhi and Noida

June 10, 2020: Dust storm and heavy rainfall lashed Delhi and Greater Noida today, uprooting trees, damaging vehicles and bringing down billboards. Traffic snarls were reported on the Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) Highway as well as on the Kalindi Kunj Road. Several tress were uprooted and cars were damaged in Noida's Sector 41. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) , thunderstorm with light rain accompanied with gusty winds of the speed of 40-50 kmph occurred over Delhi-NCR.  The Gautam Buddh Nagar traffic police tweeted that the traffic was disrupted due to felling of trees on the Kalindi Kunj road going from Delhi to Noida. The change in the weather has been caused by a cyclonic circulation over north Rajasthan and through running from North Pakistan to low-pressure area over the Bay of  Bengal .

Strong storm in Vietnam kills 5, damages 6800 houses

March 5, 2020: Strong storm in Vietnam has claimed lives of five people and damaged around 6,800 houses. Tornadoes, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms have been reported in northern Vietnam. According to the the Vietnam Disaster Management Authority (VDMA), storm has affected Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Cao Bang and Son La provinces of Vietnam.

Storm Ciara kills 2 in the United Kingdom

February 11, 2020: Two people died due to the severe storm Ciara in the United Kingdom.  Fatalities have been reported from Clydebank, West Dumbartonshitre and at the A33 near Winchester. Storm Ciara (Storm Sabine in the German-speaking countries) brought heavy rain and severe winds across much of the United Kingdom, Ireland , Sweden and other northern regions in Europe. Last week, the Met Office had issued a yellow warning for a potential storm, covering all of the United Kingdom. The Environment Agency had issued 186 flood alerts, 251 flood warnings and 1 severe flood warning in England. The storm was named Ciara by the Met Office in the United Kingdom, and Sabine by the Deutscher Wetterdienst in Germany.

Storm Ciara to bring damaging winds across Ireland

February 5, 2020: Storm Ciara is forecast to bring damaging winds across Ireland this weekend. On 4 February 2020, the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind covering the entirety of the United Kingdom. Storm Ciara has been named by the Met Office as the third storm of the 2019-2020 storm season. *Ciara is pronounced Kee-ra according to official Met Éireann

Storm Gloria in Spain kills 9, leaves four missing

January 23, 2020: Storm Gloria has claimed lives of nine people and left four other missing in Spain. More than 200,000 people are without power and weather alerts have been activated in around 33 provinces. The Spanish meteorological agency has placed 33 of its 55 provinces on high alert. Teruel Albacete, Murcia, Barcelona, Tarragon, Girona, Castellon, and Alicante province have been kept on red alert. The storm is now moving across the Pyrenees, bringing heavy snow to the mountains. Forecasters had predicted the storm would ease by Wednesday.

Storm Gloria kills 4 in Spain — 33 province on high alert

January 21, 2020: The powerful storm Gloria caused strong winds and heavy snowfall in Spain claiming lives of four people. Fatalities have been reported in Asturias, Gandia, Avila and Moixent. The Spanish meteorological agency has placed 33 of its 55 provinces on high alert. Teruel Albacete, Murcia, Barcelona, Tarragon, Girona, Castellon, and Alicante province have been kept on red alert. Heavy flooding and strong storm severely affected Valencia and the Balearic Islands. Storm Gloria has has now reached Pyrénées-Orientales, southernmost Mediterranean department of France.

Storm damage in Louisiana today: Three killed and damage from Texas to Tennessee

January 11, 2020:  Severe storm in Louisiana has claimed lives of three people and caused damage from Texas to Tennessee. Two people died in a storm near Haughton when their mobile home was destroyed. Third person died when a tree fell on the house in Oil City. In Arkansas and Missouri, tornadoes destroyed homes and also caused damage in Oklahoma. A tornado destroyed two homes near Fair Play, Missouri, about 56 km northwest of Springfield. According to the Logan County Emergency Management, at least three homes were destroyed by the tornado in Arkansas. Nepal: Storm in Bara and Parsa kills 29, injures 600

Update April 7, 2019 A preliminary report by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DoHM) has confirmed the first recorded tornado in Nepal which caused damages in Bara and Parsa districts. Main Post April 1, 2019: Storm accompanied by hailstorms and rain has claimed lives of at least 29 people and injured more than 600 people. According to the local authorities, 28 people died in Bara district and one in Parsa district of Nepal. Most of the fatalities are from Pheta and Bhulahi Bharwaliya areas in Bara district. Injured people are having treatment at Birgunj-based National Medical College and Narayani Sub-regional Hospital. Several people are also admitted at Kalaiya hospital. The rainstorm on Sunday evening damaged hundreds of houses, electric poles and uprooted trees obstructing the roads. The natural disaster also led to a power outage last night while the internet services have resumed in the affected districts, The Himalayan Times reported.

Violent storms kill 5 people in New York and Connecticut

May 16, 2018: Violent storms in parts of the Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic have claimed lives of at least five people. A woman, aged 58, died after a tree fell on her vehicle in the town of Newburgh, New York. An 11-year-old girl died in Newburgh, New York, when a large tree fell on the vehicle she was in, police said.  A 41-year-old woman was killed in New Fairfield, Connecticut, when a tree struck her car during the storm Tuesday. Similarly, in Danbury, Connecticut, a man was also killed when a tree fell on his vehicle. According to CNN, in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, a 31-year-old man was killed when a tree fell on his car, the county coroner's office said.

Russia: Hurricane in Moscow kills 16, injures 168 others

Hurricane damage at Alexander Golod's pyramid in Istrinsky District, Moscow (CNN) May 30, 2017: At least 16 people died and 168 others injured in a hurricane that hit Russia’s capital Moscow and the adjacent areas. "Eleven people died in Moscow and five others in the suburbs were killed as high winds and rain ripped through the city on Monday, felling trees, tearing off roofs and damaging more than 2,000 cars," CNN reported quoting the Investigative Committee.

Heavy rainstorm in Ujjain's Kumbha Mela kills 8

At least eight people died and 100 others injured after tents collapsed due to heavy rainstorm in Simhastha Kumbha Mela in Ujjain city of Madhya Pradesh, India. Storm disaster occurred at Simhastha Kumbha festival celebrated in Ujjain after 12 years.

Stormy weather in Arkansas has claimed life of a woman early Monday in Crawford County, The Arkansas State Police said. According to Arkansas Online , fatality has been identified as Andrea D. Pense, a 22-year-old woman driving south on U.S. 71.

Nepal: Storm in Kathmandu injures 7, closes international airport

Dust storm in Kathmandu valley (Manisha Adhikari/Facebook) A severe dust storm lashed Nepal including Kathmandu valley at around 4 pm Monday afternoon injuring seven people. According to Nepal Police, six people injured in Kathmandu and one other in Bhaktapur.  Two people got injured after a tree crashed them infront of Tri Chandra Campus. They are having treatment at Bir Hospital. In Swayambhu, one person got injured after the wall collapsed. Other injuries have been reported from Sitapaaila, Kadaghari, Old Baneshowr and Balkot (Bhaktapur).

Windstorm in Punakha, Bhutan damages roofs of 17 houses

A windstorm has damaged roofs of atleast 17 houses in Punakha district of Bhutan Thursday morning at 10am. Windstorm has totally destroyed roofs of eight houses while others have been partially blown off, Kuensel Online has written quoting, Tshewang Phuntsho, Disaster focal person of Punakha dzongkhag.

Severe weather in Bangladesh kills 10, injures 25 students

Severe weather in Bangladesh has claimed lives of 10 people and injured atleast 25 students. Six people died when a trawler capsized in Dhaleshwari River in Naraynganj. In Narsinghdi, two sisters died when a wall collapsed on them during the storm. Two other people died in Moulvibazar.
