Nepal: Storm in Kathmandu injures 7, closes international airport

A severe dust storm lashed Nepal including Kathmandu valley at around 4 pm Monday afternoon injuring seven people.

According to Nepal Police, six people injured in Kathmandu and one other in Bhaktapur. 

Two people got injured after a tree crashed them infront of Tri Chandra Campus. They are having treatment at Bir Hospital. In Swayambhu, one person got injured after the wall collapsed.

Other injuries have been reported from Sitapaaila, Kadaghari, Old Baneshowr and Balkot (Bhaktapur).

Storm damage has also been reported from Pokhara, Chitwan and parts of eastern Nepal. Storm has also damaged several earthquake temporary shelters in Kathmandu valley. Detail assessment report is yet to come.

The Tribhuvan International Airport was closed for about 39 minutes from 4:40 pm. Two international flights; Etihad Air from UAE and Jet Airways coming from India to Kathmandu were diverted to Lucknow, India 

All domestic flights from Pokahara, Simara, Biratnagar and Bhairahawa were also diverted back to the respective airports.
