Hulimavu Lake flood inundated 800 houses in Bengaluru

November 24, 2019: Eight hundred houses have been inundated on Sunday afternoon, after the bund of Hulimavu lake off Bannerghatta Road breached, The Hindu reported. Hulimavu lake water flooded houses at Krishna Layout, DLF Road, Saraswathipura, Avani Sringeri Nagar, Royal Residency Layout, and BTM Layout. According to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), around 193 people have been evacuated to safety. The BBMP and Fire and Emergency Services and Quick Response Teams are carrying out the relief work .

Magnitude 5.7 earthquake in Bajhang rattles Nepal and India

November 19, 2019: Magnitude 5.7 strong earthquake has been recorded in Bajhang district of Nepal at 07:15 pm local time. According to the Nepal Seismological Center, the earthquake's epicenter was located in Pauwagadhi area of Khaptad National park. However, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported magnitude 5.3 with epicenter 21 km far from Dipayal region of Far Western Nepal. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km. Light to weak tremor of MMI III-IV was felt across state 5 of Nepal. It was well felt in Kailali, Kalikot, Darchula, Dailekh, Bajura, Achham and Nepalgunj area.  People rushed out of their houses in fear as the tremors continued for over 3 seconds. The tremor was also felt in Lucknow and Delhi NCR region of India . Last week, tremor was also felt in Far Western Nepal after magnitude 4.5 earthquake with epicenter in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India . 

Cyclone Bulbul kills 32 in India and Bangladesh

November 14, 2015:  Cyclone Bulbul has left a trail of death and destruction, claiming lives of at least 32 people in India and Bangladesh. Cyclone Bulbul killed 10 people and affected at least 2.73 lakh families in different parts of the West Bengal, India causing the suspension of operation for 12 hours at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. According to the Sate Disaster Management, at least 2,473 houses were destroyed and another 26,000 were partially damaged in the cyclone in the coastal districts along the Bay of Bengal. At least 22 people died in seven coastal districts of Bangladesh. Cyclone Bulbul made landfall between Sagar Islands of West Bengal and Khepupara in Bangladesh. More than 1.8 million people in the vulnerable Bangladeshi coastal districts were evacuated to 4,071 cyclone shelters.

4.5 magnitude earthquake hits Uttarakhand, tremor also felt in Nepal

November 12, 2019: Tremor has been felt in Uttarakhand area of India and Far-western region of Nepal after magnitude 4.5 earthquake hit the area Tuesday morning. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the epicenter was located in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. The earthquake occurred at 07:30 am local time. However, Nepal Seismological center has recorded magnitude 4.6 earthquake and reported that the tremor was even felt in Darchula, a region located in Far-western Nepal. The epicenter was located near Dwali, SW of Lipulek. Currently, there is controversy on Nepal-India border after the new map of India kept Kalapani and Lipulek in its territory.

Three earthquakes recorded in Jamnagar, Gujarat within 24 hrs

November 4, 2019: Three earthquake tremors have been felt within 24 hours in Jamnagar and surrounding areas of Gujarat on Monday. The strongest earthquake was of magnitude 3.7 which was recorded around 07:51 pm. The tremor lasted for about 3-4 seconds. Before that, around 05:00 pm, a minor earthquake of magnitude 1.9 was recorded. However, this earthquake wasn't experience by the most people of Jamnagar due to very less intensity. Around magnitude 2.9 earthquake was recorded around 08:30 pm. The tremor was well felt by the people of Jamnagar and also by the residents of Kalawad and Lalpur . According to the locals, from last two weeks, the earthquake tremors have been continuously felt in Jamnagar area of Gujarat, India . No preliminary damage or injures have been reported.

Cyclonic Storm Kyarr prompts RED ALERT in Goa

October 25, 2019: The India meteorological department (IMD) has issued a red alert to Goa following the cyclonic storm Kyarr. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, light to heavy rainfall will occur over coastal districts of Karnataka, Goa and South Konkan during the next 24 hours. Cyclone Kyarr would result into gale winds, reaching the speed to 85 kmph and by Saturday it wouldbecome 110 kmph, the IMD official said. A deep depression in the Arabian Sea intensified into cyclonic storm Kyarr today.  Following the red alert, the Goa University has cancelled all examinations which were scheduled to be held on Friday and Saturday. Kerala Flood Cess in force for a period two years

October 17, 2019: A one percent flood Cess on goods and services has been imposed in Kerala to raise the fund required for re-construction of State after the devastating flood occurred in the State during August 2018. The Kerala flood Cess rules 2019 has been implemented from 01st August 2019 for a period of two years i.e till July 2021. The flood Cess will be used for funding the post-flood rebuilding projects. The state intends to raise about ₹600 crore from the Cess.  According to the Goods and Services Tax Department of Kerala, no separate registration required for the payment of Kerala Flood Cess. GSTIN will be treated as Registration Number for Kerala Flood Cess. Magnitude 4.5 earthquake hits Bikaner, Rajasthan today

October 13, 2019: Magnitude 4.5 earthquake has been felt across Bikaner district and neighbouring areas of Rajasthan at 10:36 am today. According to the India Meteorological Department, the earthquake was centered at a depth of 10 kilometres. Several people came out of their homes and shops as the tremor was felt in the Bikaner region. The tremor was well felt in Bikaner,Nagaur,Churu,Sikar and Hanumangarh area.

Flooding in North India kills 28 and leaves 22 missing

August 19, 2019: Flooding caused by heavy rainfall in North India killed at least 28 people and left 22 missing in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab.  Landslides cut off several parts of the state disrupting train services between Kalka and Shimla and traffic on the Chandigarh-Manali highway, NDTV reported.

Another Cyclone in Odisha in June 2019!

May 13, 2019: There is a rumor spread about another severe tropical cyclone in Odisha in June 2019.  The message has been widely spreading across social medias. People in Odisha are warned of another severe cyclone after Fani . We would like to suggest to check the India Meteorological Department Website instead of running behind the rumors. If there are any storm or cyclone details, the website will provide the necessary information. People are panicked after the recent cyclone Fani slammed Odisha causing deaths of 64 as of today. Atleast 39 people died in Puri district alone.

Cyclone Fani: Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on high alert

May 1, 2019: Cyclone Fani (pronounced as Foni) has became an "extremely severe cyclonic" storm wind speeds up to 200 kmph keeping Coastal Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are on high alert.  Severe Cyclonic Storm Fani is currently located 680km SSW of Puri and will cross the Odisha coast between Gopalpur an Chandbali close to Puri. According to the press release issued by India Meteorological Department , cyclonic storm Fani will bring light to moderate rainfall at few places very likely over north coastal Andhra Pradesh & south coastal Odisha on 2nd May.  The sea conditions are very likely to be rough to very rough along & off Puducherry, Tamilnadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked his officials and the National Crisis Management Committee to stay in touch with the states at risk from Cyclone Fani, NDTV reported.

Earthquake in Pali, Rajasthan? No earthquake but sonic boom

March 22, 2019: Four tremors along with loud explosions were heard across Pali district of Rajasthan on Friday night around 11:10pm. Earthquake-like shaking was felt in Pali causing people to evacuate their buildings immediately at the midnight. The explosions and tremors were from the practice conducted by the Indian Air Force.  Sonic booms generate enormous amounts of sound energy, sounding much like an explosion. Three days ago, similar cases were reported from Rajapalayam, Tamilnadu. Hundreds of people reported of earthquake felt in Rajapalayam . However, Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority confirmed that no earthquake has been recorded in Rajapalayam. Officials said that blasts in quarries along the ghats was the reason. On Sunday, magnitude 4.0 light earthquake was felt across Alwar, Rajasthan . 

Magnitude 4.7 earthquake felt in Guwahati and Shillong today

March 21, 2019: Magnitude 4.7 moderate earthquake has been recorded in Meghalaya, India at 08:00 pm. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km, India Meteorological Department reported. The tremor was widely felt across Guwahati and Shillong. People from parts of Bhutan and Bangladesh also reported of weak tremor felt in the border regions. No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported.

No earthquake in Rajapalayam, Tamilnadu today!

Update 8:30 pm Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority confirmed that no earthquake has been recorded in Rajapalayam. Officials suspect that blasts in quarries along the ghats could be the reason, The Hindu reported. Update 7:15 pm Three explosion were heard in Rajapalayam area. Tremor along with explosion were heard at 12.10 p.m., 2.45 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. Original Report March 19, 2019: We have received dozens of earthquake felt reports from Rajapalayam of Virudhunagar district of Tamilnadu. Tremor along with explosions were heard in the region. Several people gathered in the open spaces in the fear of tremors in Rajapalayam today. However, India Meteorological Department hasn't mentioned anything about the earthquake in Rajapalayam area on its website. Rajapalayam is a city in Virudhunagar district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Magnitude 4.0 earthquake in Alwar, Rajasthan today

March 17, 2019: Magnitude 4.0 light earthquake has been recorded in Sikar district of Rajasthan, India at 05:11 am Sunday morning. According to the India Meteorological department, earthquake of magnitude III have been felt in Sikar, Jhunjhunun, Namaul, Dausa and Alwar.  The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10km.  We have dozens of felt reports from Alwar region of Rajsathan.  No damage or injuries have been reported. Magnitude 4.8 earthquake in Andaman and Nicobar Islands today

March 11, 2019: An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 rattled Andaman and Nicobar Islands today at 0:44 am, India Meteorological Department reported. The earthquake occurred at a greater depth of 95km causing it to be felt across wider region. However, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported magnitude 4.5 earthquake in Andaman Islands with epicenter located 101km E of Port Blair, India. No damage or injuries have been reported. The Nicobar Islands are an archipelagic island chain in the eastern Indian Ocean. The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake of magnitude 9.1 killed 227,898 people in 14 countries making one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history. 

Earthquake today in Narnaul, Haryana, India

February 17, 2019: An earthquake has been felt in Narnaul area of Haryana today at 12:36 pm. We have received hundreds of earthquake felt reports from Narnaul area in last one hour. However, Indian Meteorological Department has not mentioned about the today Narnaul earthquake in its website. Narnaul is a City located in Mahendragarh district in the Indian state of Haryana.
