Cyclonic Storm Kyarr prompts RED ALERT in Goa

October 25, 2019: The India meteorological department (IMD) has issued a red alert to Goa following the cyclonic storm Kyarr.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, light to heavy rainfall will occur over coastal districts of Karnataka, Goa and South Konkan during the next 24 hours.

Cyclone Kyarr would result into gale winds, reaching the speed to 85 kmph and by Saturday it wouldbecome 110 kmph, the IMD official said.

A deep depression in the Arabian Sea intensified into cyclonic storm Kyarr today. 

Following the red alert, the Goa University has cancelled all examinations which were scheduled to be held on Friday and Saturday.

The disaster management teams have been kept on standby.

The cyclonic storm will move towards the coast of Oman.
