Magnitude 4.8 earthquake in Andaman and Nicobar Islands today

March 11, 2019: An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 rattled Andaman and Nicobar Islands today at 0:44 am, India Meteorological Department reported.

The earthquake occurred at a greater depth of 95km causing it to be felt across wider region.

However, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported magnitude 4.5 earthquake in Andaman Islands with epicenter located 101km E of Port Blair, India.

No damage or injuries have been reported.

The Nicobar Islands are an archipelagic island chain in the eastern Indian Ocean. The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake of magnitude 9.1 killed 227,898 people in 14 countries making one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history.
