GREECE: Bad weather prompts emergency in Skopelos, Skiathos and South Pelion

April 8, 2020: Greece’s civil protection agency has declared a state of emergency for Skopelos, Skiathos, South Pelion and the Zagora-Mouresi Municipality following the recent bad weather . Heavy rainfall flooded several houses and shops in Skopelos. Similarly, road damage and landslides have been reported in Zagora-Mouresi Municipality. Mudslides have obstructed the the road linking Zagora and Horefto.

Flooding in Greece kills two tourists

November 25, 2019: Two people have been killed and hundreds of homes have been flooded following an overnight storm in Greece . Bodies of two tourists have been recovered near the port of Antirio, 250 kilometers (155 miles) west of Athens, The National Herald reported. The highway linking the Greek capital to the western port city of Patras have been closed following the mudslides caused by heavy rainfall.

Decades worst natural disaster in Greece kills 16

November 17, 2017: The worst natural disaster that hit the Greek capital Athens in decades has claimed lives of at least 16 people. Nearly all of the fatalities occurred in Mandra, and authorities said about 500 homes and businesses were damaged, The Weather Channel reported.

Earthquake in Kos, Greece today kills 2 and injures 200 others

July 21, 2017: Magnitude 6.5 magnitude quake struck overnight between Bodrum and Greek islands killing at least two people on the island of Kos and injuring 200 others in Greek and Turkish coastal towns. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km below the seabed – off the south-western coastal city of Marmaris in Muğla province.

6.1 magnitude earthquake hits Greece

Magnitude 6.1 strong earthquake hits Greece today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 47 km SW of Karpathos. It was 13 miles deep. The earthquake's epicenter is at a safer distance from the coast, minimizing the chances of serious damages.

M 6.1 very strong earthquake shakes Lixourion, Greece today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located just 12 km NW of Lixourion. It was 8.5 miles deep. Earthquake has caused serious damages in Lixouri, Greek radio said quoting Kefalonia Mayor Alexandros Parisis. Seismologists have urged people on the island to leave their houses temporarily. Emergency declared after severe earthquake in Greek island of Cephalonia

Emergency has been declared following the severe earthquake in Cephalonia island of Greece. At least seven people are reported to be injured by the earthquake. Schools across Cephalonia (Kefalonia) will be closed Monday to inspect the earthquake damage. Tremors were even felt in parts of Albania (Tirana) and Italy. Storm in Rhodes, Greece kills 2

Heavy storm in Rhodes in southeastern Greece has claimed lives of at least two people and left another missing. A helicopter and team of 10 firefighters have been searching the missing people, Global News reported. Storm caused heavy flooding which trapped hundreds of people in cars. Greece earthquake today causes damage

M 5.1 moderate earthquake shakes Athens, Greece today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter of Greece earthquake today was located 6 km SW of Kainouryion and 125 km NW of capital Athens. It was 9.7 miles deep. According to Earthquake Report, earthquake has collapsed chimneys and cracked walls in Amfikleia. The Police Department of Lamia has reported rockfall in the hills near the epicenter. Below is a picture of the earthquake damage in the village of Drimea (Source: ethnos.gr). Tremor was felt in Amaroúsion, Athens, Larissa, Lékhaion, Néa Ionía, Sperkhiás and Vólos cities of Greece. J&K flash floods kill 1

Flash floods in Udhampur and Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir region of India have claimed life of at least one people. Flood rescue operation was immediately launched by the police and army. At least eight people were rescued from Surankote Nallah area. Moderate earthquake in Athens, Greece today

M 4.4 moderate earthquake hits Athens, Greece today, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported. According to the EMSC, the quake's epicenter was located 4 km SE of Pikérmi and 24 km E of Athens. It was 10 km deep. Ship sinks in stormy sea off Greece

A ship sank in a storm off the southern coast of Crete, Greece today. Three crew members were rescued immediately, but one man is still reported to be missing.
