July 21, 2017: Magnitude 6.5 magnitude quake struck overnight between Bodrum and Greek islands killing at least two people on the island of Kos and injuring 200 others in Greek and Turkish coastal towns.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km below the seabed – off the south-western coastal city of Marmaris in Muğla province.
At least 120 people got injured on Kos and 70 in Turkey.
Two flights from Athens to Kos and two flights from Kos to Athens have been cancelled.
According to Mehmet Halis Bilden, the chairman of Turkey’s disaster and emergency management presidency (AFAD), there were no casualties or major damage in Turkey.
