Nepal Weather 2019: LIVE UPDATES: Flash floods and landslides kill 78

July 13, 2019: Seventy eight people have been killed while thirty two have been missing due to floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in different parts of Nepal during the past three days.

Update 2019/07/16

According to the National Emergency Operation Centre, as of 12:30 pm today, 78 people have been confirmed dead. At least 32 people have been missing and 40 others are injured. Also 3,366 people have been rescued.

Update 2019/07/15

The death toll has risen to 67. The fatalities include 26 females and 41 males. According to the Nepal Police, at least 43 people have been injured and 30 people are still missing.

Update 3:15 pm

The death toll has risen to 30. According to the Nepal Police, at least 12 people have been injured and 18 others have been missing.

Rescue

Atleast 108 people have been rescued in Kathmandu, 10 in Udayapur, 8 in Lalitpur, 2 in Sindhuli, 2 in Siraha and one each in Bhaktapur, Sunsari an Makwanpur.

Update 11:30 am

According to the Nepal Police, the death toll from floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall have reached twenty one. At least 10 people have been injured and other 10 have been missing.

Update 10:05 am

According to the Metro Traffic, the rainfall triggered landslides have obstructed the B.P. highway at Mangaltar, Rosi and Dumja. Also the road joining Pharping-Hetauda has been closed due to the landslide at Sisneri.

According to the Nepal Police, the mudslide has obstructed the road at Dhading-Benighat road. Nepal Police has asked to call at 4421780 to know the status of the other roads across Nepal. Below is the detail of current status of the road.

Update 2019/07/13, 01:10 am

According to the Flood Forecasting Division, Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the Kamala River at Ranibas has crossed its level. The water level is above 4m. A warning has been issued and the people in the low lying areas have been asked to immediately evacuate the area.

"कमला नदी जलाधारमा भारी वर्षा संगै खतरा तह भन्दा ज्यादै उच्च बहाब शुरु भएको छ। सिन्धुली, सिराहा र धनुषाको तटीय क्षेत्रमा अति उच्च सावधानीको जरुरी। तटीय होचा स्थानका समुदाय सवैलाई तत्कालै शुरक्षित स्थानमा सार्नु पर्ने देखिन्छ।"

The Bagmati river is flowing at a danger level at Rai Gaon and Karmaiya (Padherodovan). Currently the water level is still rising at Rai gaon and has reached 11.58m. The danger level is marked above 8.5m at this point.

Update 10:50 pm

The Sunkoshi River at Hampachuwar has reached above the warning level as of 10:45 pm. The water level is currently at 10.56m.

Tonight there is high alert for Bagmati and Kamala river; medium alert at Koshi river and Kankai river.

Update 09:55 pm

Warning has been issued after water level rises at Nakkhu river at Bungmati, Lalitpur. The water level has reached 2.43 m. The water level is rising at Nakkhu river as of 09:50 pm.

This is what Flood Forecasting Division, Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation tweeted at 09:50 pm.

"काठमाडौंको नख्खु खोला स्थित बुङ्मती पुल बाढी केन्द्रमा बाढीले सतर्कता तह पार गरेको छ। नख्खुको समग्र तटिय क्षेत्रमा रातभर सतर्कता अपनाऔं।"

Update 08:45 pm

Heavy rainfall caused flooding at Oriental Colony and Metro Colony of Kuleshwor. Nepal Army and Armed Police Force used boat to rescue the people from the colonies and surrounding areas.

Update 08:10 pm

A red flag has been placed on the Koshi Barrage signaling the alert level. Among 56 sluice gates, 23 have been opened owing to the warning level after flooding at Saptakoshi River.

Below is the details shared by Nepal Police official twitter handle at 06:45 pm. Seventeen people have been died, seven people have been injured and seven others have been missing. At least four people have been rescued.

The Police Headquarter, Naxal has confirmed that the death toll due to flood and landslide have reached 17 across Nepal. Below is the number of fatalities in different parts of Nepal.

Update 06:30 pm

According to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the Bagmati and Kankai river are flowing in the danger level. The water level of Bagmati has reached at 4.62m at Khokana. Similarly, the water level is rising at Bagmati river at Rai Gaon and steady at Karmaiya. The Kankai river is rising and currently at the level of 6.08m at Mainachuli.

Three people belonging to the same family, originally from Bara district, have been killed as the wall of the house collapsed at Mulpani in Kathmandu.

Two people have been killed due to building collapse in Bhojpur district of Nepal.

Atleast 17 people have been trapped on the bank of Bagmati river situated between Rautahat and Sarlahi in Terai region of Nepal.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, the rainfall will continue till Sunday.

Update 04:35 pm

Most part of Kalanki and Kuleshwor of Kathmandu have been submerged under water due to the heavy rainfall. The Kalanki area was submerged after water level rouse in Balku river.

The rainwater has flooded the Traffic Police Office and Land Revenue Office along with Khasi Bazaar and Maitri Nagar area. The residential apartments at Kuleshwor have been flooded.

Update 04:15 pm

According to The Himalayan Times, the runway operation resumption at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has been postponed to 7:00 pm. An aircraft of Yeti Airlines skidded off due to the slippery runway caused by the heavy rainfall at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu.

According to the Yeti Airlines, the flight number NYT-422 (9N-AMM) coming from Nepalgunj skids of the runway at Kathmandu Airport at 11:05 am.

At least two people have been injured in the incident, The Annapurna Post reported.

Update 03:30 pm

The eastern wall of Singha Durbar has been collapsed due to the heavy rainfall. The vehicle  movement was halted due to the wall collapse on the Anamnagar road section.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed his deep condolences to the families who have lost their family members in the flood and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall across the country.
