  • Mine mudslides in Pueblo Nuevo, Ecuador
    -At least 12 killed and 20 others injured in Ecuador mudslides. Heavy rain in a gold-mining community in southern Ecuador caused mudslide.
    -Mudslide disaster happened after six hours of torrential downpours.
    -Mudslides have destroyed houses and blocked roads in Pueblo Nuevo. Natural disasters area can only be reached by helicopter.
    -Around 200 soldiers and policemen are working in rescue operations.

  • Today is the anniversary of the deadliest natural disaster in human history. Magnitude 8.0 Shaanxi earthquake is regarded as the deadliest natural disaster in human history. The 1556 Shaanxi earthquake or Jiajing earthquake killed around 8,30,000 people. Note that the 1960 Valdivia earthquake in Chile (M 9.5) was the strongest record earthquake, but not the deadliest natural disaster.

  • M 3.2 weak shallow earthquake in San Juan Islands Region, Washington (@ 23 km depth) with epicenter located 7 km NW from La Conner. It will have well felt by the people of Anacortes, Arlington, Coupeville, Eastsound, Greenbank, Seattle, La Conner, Mount Vernon, Oak Harbor, Camano Island, Snohomish and Stanwood.

People of Tenaha, Center, Carthage, Logansport, Garrison, Nacogdoches, Longview, Shreveport, Tyler, Bossier City and Huntsville will have felt weak shaking of MMI II-III.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Bolivia (Madre de Dios), Brazil (Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq (Shatt al Arab and Tigris), Kenya (Tana), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile, White Nile), Syria (Euphrates), Tanzania.
  • Flooding in Moreton Bay, Australia
    -Storm tide is expected to cause flooding in the coastal Moreton Bay region, north of Brisbane, Australia tomorrow morning (Saturday).
    -Around 1600 homes in Moreton Bay area are in risk of floods.

    -As of 12:00 UTC, TC Garry was located 515 nm west of bora bora.
    -Cook Islands remains on alert.

  • Landslide in Bukit Gasing, Malaysia
    -Heavy rainfall caused landslide hazard in Bukit Gasing region of Malaysia. However no damage or injury has been reported.
    -Landslips are frequent occurrences at Bukit Gasing.
  • Forest fire in Mongar District of Bhutan
    -About 200 acres of Chirpine forest burnt in Bhutan forest fire.
    -Some 30 fire fighters are struggling to control the fire.
  • A heavy hailstorm has hit parts of southern Asir province, Saudi Arabia.
  • Several parts of South Africa are currently having intense heatwave. Temperatures were between 35 to 40 degrees in Free State, the Northern Cape, North West, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Gauteng.
