  • Flooding in north Queensland, Australia
    -Heavy rainfall caused flooding in north Queensland, mainly in Ingham, Halifax and Tully and parts of Townsville.
    -Ex-cyclone Oswald also caused heavy rainfall on the Central Queensland coast and Capricornia region.
    -The Bruce Highway, a major highway in Queensland has been cut in several places.
    -A rail link between Cairns and Townsville has been closed by Queensland Rail due to flash flood.
    -Gale warning is issued for Bowen to Burnett Heads.

  • Landslide in Skardu, Pakistan
    -Landslide blocked Baltoro river flow in Skardu, the main town of the region Baltistan of Pakistan.
    -A 300 x 800 mountain landslide has changed the course of water. River water has also flooded adjacent areas in Skardu.

  • M 4.9 moderate earthquake in Sakhalin, Russia (@ 9 km depth) with epicenter located 13 km W of Okha. People of Nikolayevsk-na-Amure, Nogliki and Aleksandrovsk-Sakhalinskiy will have felt just a weak shaking of MMI III.

  • M 4.0 light shallow earthquake in Northern California (@ 13 km depth) with epicenter located 21 km SE from Markleeville. It will have well felt by the people of Columbia, Sonora, Mono Vista, Jamestown, Soulsbyville, Carson City, South Lake Tahoe, Oakdale, Truckee, Gardnerville, Ranchos, Coleville and Topaz.

  • M 5.3 moderate earthquake in Russia-Kazakhstan-Xinjiang Border Region (@ 42 km depth) with epicenter located 17 km NE of Belyashi. People of Zyryanovsk, Altay (China) and OElgiy (Mongolia) will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

  • M 4.9 moderate earthquake in Costa Rica (@ 63 km depth) with epicenter located just 5 km S of Santiago. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Alajuela, Alajuelita, Aserrí, Atenas, Colon, Curridabat, Granadilla, Grecia, Jaco, La Virgen, Piedades, Pozos, San Diego, San Jose, San Pablo, Santa Ana and Santiago. People of Turrialba, Santa Cruz, Palmares, Agua Caliente o San Francisco and Nosara will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

  • M 4.6 moderate shallow earthquake in Southern Iran (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 81 km NNE of Bandar 'Abbas. People of Minab, Qeshm and Khasab will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

Recent Flash Floods
Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Bolivia (Madre de Dios), Brazil (Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq (Shatt al Arab and Tigris), Kenya (Tana), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile, White Nile), Syria (Euphrates), Tanzania.
  • Nearly 50 flood warnings have been issued across Britain. A combination of heavy downpour and a rapid thaw of snow and ice cold may cause problem.


Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Fuego, Santiago, Poas, Reventador, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Raung, Erta Ale, Paluweh, Gamalama, Batu Tara, Sakurajima, Manam, Ulawun, Tolbachik and Kilauea volcano.
  • White Island (Whakaari)/New Zealand recent volcanic activity
    -Scientists have predicted the White Island volcano to erupt soon with 'little or no warning'. Volcano prediction is done due to  increased level of unrest on White Island.
    -GNS volcanologists have warned saying an increased hazard to visitors to the island. As volcanologist says, explosive eruptions could occur at any time with little or no warning.
  • An earthquake swarm has started about 8 km NE of Bardabunga volcano in Iceland. Multiples earthquakes (most minor, highest M 3.8) have been recorded between 2-10 km depth.


Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Tropical Cyclone Garry
    -As of 12:00 UTC, TC Garry was located 330 nm east of Pago Pago, American Samoa.
    -Tropical Cyclone alert is issued for Aitutaki in the Cook Islands.


Natural Disaster News
  • Landslide has destroyed about 80m of road in Matang, Malaysia. 
  • The United Nations Development Programme, UNDP is now assisting Mozambique with evacuations after floods. An estimated 55,000 Mozambican are in danger from recent floods.
  • Virginia emergency management officials will conduct a statewide tornado drill on March 12 at 9:45 a.m. Around 62 natural disasters tornado in last two years have killed 10 people across Virginia.
  •  North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has declared emergency for NC landslide disaster.
