GREECE: Bad weather prompts emergency in Skopelos, Skiathos and South Pelion

April 8, 2020: Greece’s civil protection agency has declared a state of emergency for Skopelos, Skiathos, South Pelion and the Zagora-Mouresi Municipality following the recent bad weather . Heavy rainfall flooded several houses and shops in Skopelos. Similarly, road damage and landslides have been reported in Zagora-Mouresi Municipality. Mudslides have obstructed the the road linking Zagora and Horefto.

Severe weather in Pakistan kills 27, injures 5 others

March 9, 2020: Heavy rainfall, strong winds and thunderstorm have claimed lives of at least 27 people and injured 56 others across across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan . The government has declared a week-long Extreme Weather Emergency . Mardan district is worst affected by the recent weather disaster claiming lives of six people including four children. Other fatalities are from Swat district,Peshawar, Nowshera and Charsadda. On other hand, Shangla district received heavy snowfall, causing road closures for the first time in the month of March.

Severe weather in India's Maharashtra state kills 2

Heavy rainfall and storm caused widespread damage in Yavatmal, Nashik and Dhule districts in Maharashtra state of India claiming lives of two people. A woman died in Yavatmal district after her house collapsed following heavy rains. Lightning strike killed another women in Dhule district of Maharashtra.

NEPAL: Thunderstorm and rainfall; Cloudy weather amid Shivaratri

Weather forecast for March 6, 2016 (Meteorological Forecasting Division of Nepal) Cloudy weather along with thunderstorm and rainfall have been predicted for Nepal today, a day earlier of celebration of Maha Shivaratri. Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Meteorological Forecasting Division of Nepal expects cloudy weather in most of the Central and Western regions of Nepal Sunday afternoon. Brief rainfall or thunderstorm has been forecast for Western, Eastern and Central regions of Nepal.

Severe weather in Quetta, Balochistan — Flash flood warning issued

Heavy rain along with hailstorm lashed major parts of Balochistan including Quetta valley on Friday. The fisheries department has issued an advisory for fishermen along the coastal belt of Balochistan not to venture out to sea on March 5 and 6 in view of torrential rains and high winds in the province, DawnNews reported.

Stormy weather lashed parts of UAE and Oman on Tuesday with Khorfakkan and Dibba having worst rainfall. Heavy downpour has been recorded in parts of Khorfakkan, Sharjah, along with Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah.

Taiwan Snow 2016: Severe weather kills 85

Severe weather in Taiwan has claimed lives of at least 85 people, mostly from hypothermia and the onset of cardiovascular diseases. Snowstorm killed 66 people in Taipei, New Taipei and Taoyuan, further 16 died in Kaohsiung and three in Pingtung, Shanghaiist reported.

Washington governor declares weather emergency

Governor Jay Inslee has declared weather emergency in Washington after heavy rain  triggered flooding and landslides across the western part of the state.  Flood waters have closed several sections of Oregon highways in Clatsop, Tillamook, Marion, Yamhill and Lincoln counties.

Weather related natural disasters occur almost daily, UN says

Weather related natural disasters have occurred almost daily in the past decade occupying 90 percent of disasters, a U.N. report said on Monday. A report issued by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) shows that 90 percent of major natural calamities have been caused by 6,457 recorded floods, storms, heatwaves, droughts and other weather related events. The United Nations report, called "The Human Cost of Weather Related Disasters," found there were an average of 335 weather related disasters annually between 2005 and August this year. The report was issued by the U.N. Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Center for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium. Since 1995, weather related natural disasters have claimed lives of 606,000 people, left 4.1 billion injured, homeless or in need of aid, and accounted for 90 percent of all disasters, an increase of 14% from 1995-2004, and

Storm damage in Kfar Saba (Eli Nodler/ Ynetnews ) Stormy weather in Israel has claimed life of a person and left thousands without power. A 20-year old worker died in Pardes Hanna when a wall collapsed at a construction site because of the strong winds.

Code orange weather warning issued in 12 Bulgaria districts

A code orange weather warning has been issued in twelve Bulgaria districts because of the heavy downpours observed in the past 24 hours. Weather warning is in active in Silistra, Dobrich, Shumen, Varna, Burgas, Yambol, Haskovo, Kardzhali, Smolyan, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik and Blagoevgrad district of Bulgaria, Sofia News Agency reported.

Tennessee winter weather kills 22 – State of Emergency continues

Winter weather in Tennessee has claimed lives of at least 22 people in last six days, Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) confirmed. "Tennessee currently remains at a Level II-State of Emergency. The original elevation to a Level III – State of Emergency for this winter storm was at 9 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2015," TEMA mentioned in its 5 p.m. update.

Wild weather in Canary Islands claim 2 lives

Wild weather in Canary Islands of Spain has claimed lives of at least two people, the regional government said today. Two people including an 11-year-old girl were drowned in the Canary Islands when they were swept away by waves on La Graciosa Island. Two other memebers of the same family were rescued by boats. Valencia's opera house has also been damaged and remain closed indefinitely.
