Storm Ciara kills 2 in the United Kingdom

February 11, 2020: Two people died due to the severe storm Ciara in the United Kingdom.  Fatalities have been reported from Clydebank, West Dumbartonshitre and at the A33 near Winchester. Storm Ciara (Storm Sabine in the German-speaking countries) brought heavy rain and severe winds across much of the United Kingdom, Ireland , Sweden and other northern regions in Europe. Last week, the Met Office had issued a yellow warning for a potential storm, covering all of the United Kingdom. The Environment Agency had issued 186 flood alerts, 251 flood warnings and 1 severe flood warning in England. The storm was named Ciara by the Met Office in the United Kingdom, and Sabine by the Deutscher Wetterdienst in Germany.

Storm Ciara to bring damaging winds across Ireland

February 5, 2020: Storm Ciara is forecast to bring damaging winds across Ireland this weekend. On 4 February 2020, the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind covering the entirety of the United Kingdom. Storm Ciara has been named by the Met Office as the third storm of the 2019-2020 storm season. *Ciara is pronounced Kee-ra according to official Met Éireann

3.0 magnitude earthquake rattles Stockton-on-Tees, Durham today: BGS

January 23, 2020: Magnitude 3.0 earthquake has been recorded in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham today at just before 6 a.m., the British Geological Survey (BGS) reported. The earthquake occurred at 4 km depth. The tremor was felt across Stockton, Billingham, Hartlepool, Wolviston and Middlesbrough. According to BGS, more than 370 reports has been received from people who felt the earthquake in Stockton-on-Tees today. Typical reports described, "woke me up, felt like someone had crashed into the house with a car", "single shock felt like an explosion nearby", "it felt like the house was lifting from its foundations. Landslide: Trimingham cliff fall in Norfolk causes Caravan evacuation

December 6, 2020: A person staying at one of the caravans at the Trimingham House Caravan Park has been evacuated after a huge section of cliff fell onto the north Norfolk beach. According to the BBC , three seaside caravans are teetering on the brink of a cliff after a landslide the size of two football pitches. Members of the public have been warned to avoid Vale Road in Trimingham, near Cromer. Two weeks ago also, part of a cliff was collapsed in north Norfolk at the same site. Flooding in Hayle leaves 50-60 properties affected - Declared a 'major incident'

December 19, 2019: Devon and Cornwall Police have declared a major incident after flash flooding in Hayle. According to the Cornwall Council, around 50 properties have been affected by flooding in the area. A 7-mile stretch of the A30 in Cornwall has been closed due to flooding & 50 properties have been affected. There are 18 flood warnings in place across England , mainly across the South, South West and River Severn.

3.2 magnitude earthquake rattles Taunton, Somerset

December 5, 2019: An earthquake of magnitude 3.2 has been recorded in Somerset today at 22:45 pm. According to the British Geological Survey (BGS), the  earthquake's epicentre was close to the village of Huntworth, Somerset. Tremor was felt in Bridgewater, Taunton, Yeovil and Cheddar. No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported.

Flooding in Derbyshire, England kills 1

November 9, 2019: A woman has been dead in the flood water in Derbyshire caused by heavy rainfall in 24 hours than it normally receives in a single month. Derbyshire and South Yorkshire have been worst hit by the floods. More than 100 flood warnings are in place across England .   River Derwent burst its banks leading to the evacuation of the people.

Several evacuated after flooding in Tipton, England

October 15, 2019: Seventeen residents have been evacuated from 10 houses on Park Lane West in Tipton, West Midlands after flooding in the area. Tipton Green Junior School also remain closed after 700 children were evacuated due to flooding. According to the South Staffordshire Water, atleast 20 properties have been damaged. "The evacuated residents have been temporarily re-homed by Sandwell Council while others have made their own arrangement,"  BBC reported quoting the West Midlands Fire Service. Biggest meteor sighting recorded in Britain; Clearly observed from London, Hampshire and Stafford

Meteor over Battersea in London (Twitter Video/ DJ Paul Gilbert) A bright meteor has been spotted over Britain at about at 03:16 GMT. Meteor was clearly observed from London, Hampshire, Stafford and the east coast of England. "A green flash was observed moving south to north for a few seconds, leaving a magnesium-white trail," BBC reported. Its colour has prompted people on Twitter to describe it as the St Patrick's Day meteor.

Severe flood warnings in Lancashire and Yokshire; Thousands evacuated

UK flood warnings/flood alerts map (The Telegraph) Heavy rain has caused flooding in northern England, leading evacuations of thousands in Lancashire and Yorkshire. At least 2,200 homes have been evacuated in York placing six severe flood warnings in the area, BBC reported. Met Office has issued hundreds of flood alerts and warnings - more than 30 of them severe.

Ramsgate earthquake shakes London Friday morning

Magnitude 4.0 light earthquake hit United Kingdom today at 02:52 am local time, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located just 2 km (1mi) W of Ramsgate. It was 3.1 miles deep.

Oakham, Rutland earthquake today measured 3.8 in magnitude

An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.9 has been recorded in Hampshire, the British Geological Survey confirmed. According to the British Geological Survey, the quake's epicentre was approximately 1 km northeast of the centre of Winchester. It was 1.9 miles deep.

Earthquake in Jersey, Channel Islands today is biggest in 87 years!

According to the British Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 15 km west of Jersey, Channel islands. It was 7.4 miles deep. Tremor was well felt in St. Helier, St. Sampson, St. Peter Port (Guernsey) and Saint Brieuc (France) region. M 3.5 light earthquake shakes Oakham, Rutland region of Central England today, the British Geological Survey  reported. According to the British Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located just 1 km NW of Ashwell. It was 1.2 miles deep. Britain Christmas storm claims 3 lives

Strong storm has caused floods, power cuts and travel chaos to much of Britain claiming lives of at least three persons. Hurricane-force winds of up to 87 miles per hour hit the country bringing torrential downpours which caused rivers to swell and flood. A man drowned in the Rothay River near Ambleside, Cumbria. The body of a woman was found in a river in Bethesda, Gwynedd, in North Wales. Similarly, a motorist died at Bolventor in Cornwall after a hailstorm caused three cars to collide, The Telegraph reported. Around 30 flights from London's Heathrow airport have been cancelled. The Environment Agency has issued 193 flood alerts and 29 flood warnings. Northern Ireland is expected to face some of the stormiest weather in the UK on Christmas Eve.
