Tsunami hits Fukushima – Seismologist says 'Japan earthquake 2011 aftershocks'

A minor tsunami of 20 centimetres (7.8 inches) has been observed in Ishinomaki, Miyagi prefecture, and Ofunato, Iwate prefecture of Japan after magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit the region, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. Tidal waves of 10 cm were also logged in the city of Soma located about 40 km north of the Fukushima No. 1 plant, the agency said. The quake was registered at level four on the Japan's seismic scale of 7 in some parts of Fukushima prefecture. "Today's tremor was aftershock of 2011 quake", Japan Today has written quoting the seismologist Yasuhiro Yoshida of the Japan Meteorological Agency. "There are fears that relatively large earthquakes will occasionally occur in the ocean area where aftershocks of the great earthquake continue," the seismologist Yasuhiro Yoshida added. Disaster Management Centre to conduct Tsunami drill in Sri Lanka

A tsunami drill will be conducted in coastal districts of Sri Lanka today, the Disaster Management Centre said. Tsunami drill will cover 14 coastal districts of Sri Lanka at 3:00 p.m. local time, Daily Mirror has reported quoting the Disaster Management Centre. Chilean Earthquake 2014 creates Tsunami in Japan

Magnitude 8.2 earthquake in Chile has caused Tsunami in Japan. A tsunami of up to 40 centimeters has been observed at a port of Iwate Prefecture early Thursday morning, Xinhua reported. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami alert for Pacific coastal areas of Hokkaido and the Tohoku region, some parts of the Kanto region and the Izu and Ogasawara islands. According to the public broadcaster NHK, local authorities have issued evacuation advisories to more than 22,000 people living near the coastline in Iwate prefecture, northern Japan. The 2011 Tohoku earthquake created Tsunami up to 40.5 m in Japan. At least six people have confirmed dead in Chilean earthquake 2014. Most of the victims are killed by falling debris or heart attacks. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 95 km NW of Iquique. It was 7.7 miles deep. According to the Interior Minister Rodrigo Penailillo, most of the victims killed by falling debris or heart attacks. -Chile's Navy lifted tsunami warnings for all of Chile long coastline at around 7 a.m. local time (11 a.m. GMT). -According to the Chile's navy reports, the first tsunami wave arrived on the coast within 45 minutes of the quake. -Around 23 flights canceled due to the closure of airports in northern Chile. -All classes in Aria and Parinacota regions cancelled today. -The state of emergency declared in northern provinces. Tsunami predictions 2014 for Russia

Tsunami is predicted to hit Russia’s Far East this year, Ria Novosti reported quoting the Emergencies Ministry. Major earthquake is expected to hit off the southwestern coast of Sakhalin Island creating the Tsunami. Russia's Tsunami predictions 2014 have been done north of the epicenter of a 2007 quake, the emergency ministry added. However, the exact time is unknown and it's effect isn't clear. M 7.3 Japan earthquake creates Tsunami

Update 2013/10/26; 01:35 UTC -Tsunamis of up to 40 centimetres were reported at four areas along the coast. -Workers at the Fukushima power station were told to leave waterfront areas for higher ground. -An evacuation order was also issued in some municipalities in Iwate Prefecture and Miyagi Prefectures. Update October 18, 2013 The death toll has risen to 171 with 20 people still missing. According to recent official reports by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), 171 have been reported dead, 20 missing, and 375 people have been injured. Fatalities are from Bohol, Cebu and Siquijor. The town of Loon, Bohol, has the largest number of casualties. It is the deadliest earthquake in the Philippines in 23 years releasing the energy equivalent to 32 Hiroshima bombs,  Philippine Daily Inquirer reported. Following are the impacts of this earthquake following the latest bulletin released by the NDRRMC at 06:00 PST (GMT+8) on October 18, 2013. Tsunami hit US East Coast, NOAA says

A tsunami was observed on June 13, 2013 at East Coast, Bermuda and Puerto Rico, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said. At Newport, Rhode Island tsunami wave reached just under 25cm above sea level. According to NOAA, Gages in Kiptopeke, Virginia, and Atlantic City and New Jersey also recorded similar peaks. Minor tsunami damage was reported at the yacht club to the dock and two boats. Scientists are still trying to determine the cause of Tsunami. So called meteotsunami has been related to a strong storm that moved through the region and offshore that day. Some believe that the continental shelf landslide, a rare event, caused Tsunami. M8.3 earthquake hits Sea of Okhotsk, Russia

Update -Russian emergency authorities issued a tsunami warning for Sakhalin and the Kurile islands but was lifted several minutes later. -Following Russian news agencies, tremors lasted for about five minutes in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on the Kamchatka peninsula . Several residential buildings and schools were evacuated. - Tremors were also felt in Moscow . At least 850 people were evacuated from buildings in Moscow. The Agency of Hydrometeorological and Environmental monitoring said very weak tremor with MMI I was felt in Moscow. Tremors are rare in Moscow. Tsunami debris California 2013: Japan Tsunami boat reaches Crescent City

Japanese fishing boat washed by 2011 tsunami has been confirmed as the first piece of debris to reach the coast of California. The 20-foot boat is the first remnant from the disaster zone to reach the state.  Tsunami boat belonging to the Takata High School in Rikuzentakata, in Iwate Prefecture of Japan reached Crescent City of California on April 7, 2013. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA, and the Japanese Consulate in San Francisco confirmed this news. According to the Japanese government, about 1.5 million tons of debris was floating in the ocean immediately after the Tsunami disaster.
