  • Flooding and landslide in Sri Lanka
    -Flash floods and landslides have killed at least nine people and left thousands homeless in Sri Lanka.
    -Three people died when a tree collapsed on a van and other six were buried in landslides. Eight people had died in Matale and one is Kandy in central Sri Lanka.
    -Around 4,000 displaced people are living in 17 relief camps.
    -Landslides also blocked roads from Laggala to Wilgamuwa, Raththota to Illukumbura and Matale to Galewela.
    -Sluice gates of Kalawewa and Rajangana tanks (reservoirs) have been opened.
    -A landslide danger zone has been declared in several districts of the central hill province.
    -The 2010 Colombo floods displaced over 260,000 people in Colombo and suburbs (Photo: Flooding in Gampaha, Sri lanka, 2010).
    Update
    -Death toll from Sri Lanka flood has risen to 16. Other 14 are still reported to be missing.
    -Following Disaster Management Centre, some 175,558 individuals are reported to be affected by the bad weather.

  • M 3.4 weak shallow earthquake in Southern Italy (@ 2 km depth) with epicenter located 7 km NW Acquaformosa. It will have well felt by the people of Castrovillari and Taranto.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake in Eastern Honshu, Japan (@ 77 km depth) with epicenter located 88 km WNW from Sendai. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of  Fukushima, Niigata and Tokyo.

  • M 4.8 moderate earthquake in Oaxaca, Mexico (@ 61 km depth) with epicenter located 11 km SE of Jalapa. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Santo Domingo Tehuantepec, Salina Cruz, San Jeronimo Ixtepec, Huatulco, Acatzingo, Santa María Huatulco, Santiago Lachiguiri and Tehuantepec.

  • M 4.6 earthquake in Myanmar (@ 41 km depth) with epicenter located 57 km SW of Nay Pyi Taw. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Myaydo, Thayetmyo and Pyinmana.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Bolivia (Madre de Dios), Brazil (Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq (Shatt al Arab and Tigris), Kenya (Tana), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile, White Nile), Syria (Euphrates), Tanzania.
  • Flooding in Merto Vancouver Coastal region, Canada
    -High winds and high tide flooded the seawalls in West Vancouver and Stanley Park.

Erupting Volcanoes: Fuego, Santiago, Poas, Reventador, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Raung, Erta Ale, Paluweh, Gamalama, Batu Tara, Sakurajima, Manam, Ulawun, Tolbachik and Kilauea volcano.


Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Tropical cyclone Evan
    -A State of natural disaster has been declared in the Northern and Western divisions of Fiji. .
    -Heavy storm and floods hit western parts of Viti Levu.
    -Cyclone Evan killed four people in Samao. Damage to the main island of Upolu appears to be worse than from the 2009 earthquake and tsunami that killed 135 people.

  • Tornado in Laurel Bay, South Carolina
    -Tornado destroyed homes in the Laurel Bay military housing community in northern Beaufort.
  • China has arrested around 100 people for spreading end of the world rumors. Many of those arrested are said to be part of the fringe Christian group Almighty God which claims that the world would end this Friday, on December 21 2012.
