This is what Marianne Reeseg, a resident of Ketchikan, Alaska send us through felt report form as soon as the earthquake was felt:
"It hit just before midnight tonight. It shook for quite some time-a very strong side-to-side motion. I'm not sure how far I am from the epicenter-I'd guess just about 100 miles to my northwest. It was the strongest quake I've ever felt here."

This is the first major earthquake in 2013. Alaska earthquake occurred as a result of shallow strike-slip faulting on or near the plate boundary between the Pacific and North America plates.

A small tsunami has been observed at Port Alexander, Alaska.

Tsunami Warning is still in effect for coastal BC and Alaska from north tip of Vancouver Island to Cape Fairweather.
DR: Please do not return to the coast until local emergency officials indicate it is safe to do so.

There is rumor of Tsunami expected in Hawaii too. Note that no official message is flashed regarding potential Tsunami for Hawaii (Tsunami travel time below).

USGS has revised the earthquake magnitude to 7.5 at 9.9 km depth.
Moderate aftershocks of magnitude 4.7 was followed 30 minutes later.

Recommended Actions: If you are in a warning area - move inland to higher ground. If you are in an advisory area - move off the beach and out of harbors and marinas. Widespread inundation of land is not expected for advisory areas. Be alert to instructions from your local emergency officials. Do not go to the coast to observe the tsunami. Do not return to the coast until local emergency officials indicate it is safe to do so. Next update and additional information: This message will be updated in 30 minutes or sooner if the situation warrants. The tsunami message will remain in effect until further notice.

Following USGS Pager Map, maximum shaking intensity is VI (strong, though no worry as it is least populated area) in Craig and Petersburg. People of Wrangell will have felt moderate shking of MMI V.
