13 earthquakes rock Bajhang in three hours; damage houses

Earthquake epicenter map of Bajhang, Nepal (Source: NSC) Update June 30, 2016 At least 13 tremors were recorded by 5:51 pm in less than three hours, My Republica has mentioned quoting the National Seismological Centre in Kathmandu. A hostel of Dashrath Higher Secondary School in Aatichaur area of Bajhang has been collapsed by the earthquake, Nagarik , the national newspaper of Nepal reported. No causalities have been reported. The earthquakes developed cracks in multiple government buildings  including those of Survey Department, Agriculture Office, District Administration Office and others. Jiangsu, China Tornado 2016: At least 99 dead, 846 injured

Tornado damage in China's Jiangsu Province (Xinhua/Cai Yang) A violent tornado in Jiangsu province of China has claimed lives of at least 99 people and injured 846 others. The China Meteorological Administration ranked the tornado as an EF4 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale with maximum sustained winds greater than 266 km/h which hit along the outskirts of Yancheng around 2:30 p.m. local time on June 23, 2016. EF-4 is the second strongest rating for tornadoes.

Natural Disaster: Lightning strikes in india kill 120

Lightning strikes have claimed lives of at least 120 people in four Indian states. Fatalities are from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh. Lightning disaster killed 57 people in Bihar, 41 in Uttar Pradesh, 12 in Madhya Pradesh and 10 in Jharkhand. 

Torrential rainfall in Niger desert kills 3

Torrential rainfall has claimed lives of at least three people in the desert in northern Niger. Fatalities are from Bazagor locality. Heavy rainfall also killed more than 8,000 goats, sheep and cows, Africa News reported.

Landslides, floods in Japan kill 3

Landslides and floods in southern Japan have claimed lives of three people and left three others missing. A 92-year-old man died after a landslide hit his house in Kamiamakusa city, Yahoo News reported quoting a local disaster management official. Another 79-year-old man drowned in a flooded ditch in the town of Kosa.

M4.4 aftershock near Khanigaun, Nuwakot

June 21, 2016: Magnitude 4.4 aftershock has been recorded in Nuwakot district at 11:34 am local time Tuesday morning. According to Nepal's National Seismological Center, the quake's epicenter was located near Khanigaun.

INDONESIA: Flooding and landslides in Central Java kill 35

Flooding and landslides in Indonesia's Central Java have claimed lives of 35 people and left 25 others missing. Five machinery equipment and a drone were deployed to help the search and rescue operation, Xinhua News Agency reported quoting a spokesman for the national disaster management agency.

FEMA conducting Emergency Alert System test today

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in coordination with state, local, tribal, and territorial emergency managers and state broadcasters’ associations, is conducting a test of Emergency Alert System (EAS) in nine states today, June 15th at 2:20 PM MDT/1:20 PM PDT. The EAS test will be organized in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Washington, FEMA mentioned in a news release.

Weather Service issues heat advisory for Mississippi

The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a heat advisory for Mississippi in effect from noon today to 7 pm CDT Thursday. According to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), it is expected to produce dangerous heat index readings along and west of the Mississippi River.

Flash flood in Tenerife, Spain kills 5

Flash flood on the Spanish holiday island of Tenerife has claimed lives of five people. The Red Cross has deployed 120 volunteers, 10 ambulances and off-board boats to help in the rescue operation.

Nepal Seismological Center records 4.3 tremor in Gorkha

Nepal Seismological Center has recorded magnitude 4.3 aftershock in Gorkha district of Nepal Tuesday morning. The tremor was recorded at 5:12 am on June 14, 2016. The epicenter was located near Taple. No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported. This is the 461th aftershock of magnitude 4 or greater recorded since 2015 Gorkha earthquake .

Landslide in west Colombia kills 5, leaves 30 missing

A landslide in west Colombia has claimed lives of five people and left 30 others missing on Thursday, June 9, 2016. The landslide took place around 3:30PM on the road between Medellin and Quibdo, the capital of the Pacific Choco province, Colombia Reports mentioned.

NEPAL: Flood in Banepa kills 2, leaves 1 missing

A flood triggered by heavy downpour at Banepa in Kavre district of Nepal has claimed lives of two people and left one other missing. According to Nepal Police, Mohan Bahadur Thapa, aged 58, of Nayabasti, Banepa-4 was washed away by flood water. He was washed away after entering the Punyabhumi river in UgraChandi -6 in search cooking gas cylinders.

Florida declares emergency as tropical storm Colin approaches Big Bend area

Governer Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency for more than half the counties in Florida Monday as Tropical Storm Colin headed toward the Big Bend area of the state.  The state's Emergency Operations Center was elevated to activation status level 2, “The level two activation at the State Emergency Operations Center will help state and local emergency management officials work together to ensure our state is ready to respond to any impacts of this weather event.” Some 6,000 Florida National Guard members are on standby.
