  • Tropical Cyclone Evan in Samoa
    -Tropical Cyclone Evan killed two people in Samoa.
    -Samoa Cyclone Evan, a category-two storm made landfall in Apia on Thursday.
    -A state of disaster has been declared in the Pacific nation.
    -Evan caused flash flooding across Apia and also affected Apia airport.
    -The Fiji Met Service expects the cyclone to intensify to a category 2 as it changes direction and moves away from Samoa today. Cyclone Evan will arrive Fiji on Sunday.

Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Acajutla, San Antonio del Monte, Guaymango, Sonsonate, Sonzacate and Izalco. People of Soyapango, San Salvador, Guatemala City, Villa Nueva and Mixco.

  • M 5.0 moderate earthquake in Costa Rica (@ 37 km depth) with epicenter located 37 km SSE of Quepos. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of San Isidro, Daniel Flores, Tejar, Bahia Ballena, Pavas, San Jose and San Pedro.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake in Honshu, Japan (@ 63 km depth) with epicenter located 7 km ESE of Chiba-shi. It will have well felt by the people of Yotsukaido, Ichihara, Oami, Zushi, Tsuchiura, Fuchu-shi, Chiba-shi and Tokyo.

  • M 3.4 light shallow earthquake in Northern California (@ 4 km depth) with epicenter located just 3 km NNE from The Geysers.  People of Cobb, Anderson Springs, Santa Rosa, Calistoga, napa, Healdsburg, Kelseyville, Middletown, Hidden Valley Lake and San Francisco will have felt weak shaking of MMI II-III.

Recent Flash Floods
Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Bolivia (Madre de Dios), Brazil (Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq (Shatt al Arab and Tigris), Kenya (Tana), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile, White Nile), Syria (Euphrates), Tanzania. 
  • Flooding in San Diego, California
    -San Diego flood and mudslide caused a number of traffic incidents.
    -Flood water flowed in the Midway District at the intersection of Midway Drive and Rosecrans Street.
    -The California Highway Patrol reported a mudslide on south Interstate 5 at Balboa Avenue.
    -Water also flooded an area in Ocean Beach at Abbott Street and Newport Avenue.
    -Rescue teams are deployed in the flooded area.
    -The Hatfield San Diego Flood of 1916 destroyed the Sweetwater and Lower Otay Dams, and caused 22 deaths and $4.5 million in damages.

Natural Disaster News
  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has designated three counties in Tennessee as primary natural disaster areas due to damages and losses caused by drought and excessive heat that occurred April 1 – Aug. 31, 2012. Primary natural disaster counties are Putnam, Van Buren and White.
