  • Storms in Mahikeng, South Africa
    -
    Torrential rains and storms killed two people in Mahikeng, South Africa. Their bodies were found in Madibogo South, Lt-Col Lesego Metsi.
    -The Motsitlane, Dikgatlhong and Lenganeng sections of Madibogo village have been hit by heavy storms this week.
    -14 people were killed when a bridge collapsed on the R65 between Lothair and Ermelo due to heavy rains yesterday.

  • Flooding in Perth, Australia
    -Heavy storm caused flooding in Mandurah and Rockingham area.
    -Following Australian Weather Bureau, more bad weather is predicted across South West WA, including Perth.
    -Several homes have lost power in Mandurah.
    Update
    -Dozens of homes and business are flooded when storms caused 211mm of rain at Yourdamung and 157mm at Collie.

  • M 3.7 light shallow earthquake Offshore Northern California (@ 20 km depth) with epicenter located 19 km W from Petrolia. People of Ferndale, Rio Dell, Eureka, Arcata, Fortuna, Petrolia and Whitethorn will have felt weak shaking of MMI II-III.

  • M 3.1 weak shallow earthquake in France (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located just 1 km SE Sainte-agnès. It will have well felt by the people of  Meylan and Grenoble.

  • M 4.5 moderate earthquake in Costa Rica (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 3 km SSW of Naranjo. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of San Ramon, Desamparados, Alajuela, Asuncion, Atenas, Calle Blancos, Escazú, Fortuna, Grecia, San Jose, San Rafael, Santo Domingo and Santiago.

  • M 3.0 weak shallow earthquake in Oklahoma (@ 15 km depth) with epicenter located 11 km N of Okemah. It will have well felt by the people of Okmulgee, Glenpool, Sapulpa, Okemah, Prague, Yukon and Oklahoma City. Click for Oklahoma earthquake today.

  • M 4.0 light earthquake in Central Turkey (@ 11 km depth) with epicenter located 16 km SE Kadirli. Weak tremor will have felt as far as  Osmaniye and Adana.

  • M 4.8 moderate shallow earthquake near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan (@ 15 km depth) with epicenter located 26 km ESE of Iwaki. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Kitaibaraki, Takahagi, Namie, Hitachi, Iwaki, Kōriyama and Tokyo.

Recent Flash Floods
Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Bolivia (Madre de Dios), Brazil (Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq (Shatt al Arab and Tigris), Kenya (Tana), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile, White Nile), Syria (Euphrates), Tanzania. 
  • Flooding in Jupiter, Florida
    -Strong storm hit Palm Beach County and also caused flooding in Jupiter.
    -The main roadways within Jupiter were unsafe to travel due to flood water.


Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Fuego, Santiago, Poas, Reventador, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Raung, Erta Ale, Paluweh, Gamalama, Batu Tara, Sakurajima, Manam, Ulawun, Tolbachik and Kilauea volcano.
  • New Zealand/White Island Volcano, Bay of Plenty recent volcanic activity
    -The volcanic alert level at White Island has been raised to 2 and the aviation colour code to orange.
    -A spiny lava dome at White Island can be observed clearly.


Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Tropical Cyclone Four
    -As of 05:00 UTC, TC Four was located 290 nm west of Pago Pago, American Samoa.
    -Current maximum sustained wind speed: 17 m/s, 34 kt
    -GDACS has issued Orange alert for Tropical Cyclone FOUR-12.
    Update

    -The Fiji Met Service expects the cyclone to intensify to a category 2 as it changes direction and moves away from Samoa tomorrow.
    -Cyclone is expected to hit Samoa later today with wind speeds over 80km/h. Cyclone will arrive Fiji on Sunday.
  • Tropical Cyclone Claudia
    -As of 05:00 UTC Claudia was located 870 nm south of Diego Garcia.

    -The influx of Light we will experience today (December 12, 2012 also December 21-22) will be infinitely more powerful than anything we have previously experienced.
    -The near-Earth asteroid 4179 Toutatis, which is about 3 miles wide, will zoom within 4.3 million miles of Earth during its closest approach early Wednesday morning, Dec. 12.

  • Code yellow has been declared for twenty four Bulgarian regions as cold weather and gusty winds is forecast. Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, BAS has issued the alert notice for all Bulgarian regions except Pernik, Kyustendil, Blagoevgrad and Smolyan, which are under code green.
