Super Typhoon Chanthu (Kiko) to affect Philippines and Taiwan

September 11, 2021: Chanthu (known as Kiko in the Philippines) is currently a Category 5 Super Typhoon which is forecast to pass over extreme Northern Luzon, Philippines and lash Taiwan within two days. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued TCWS No.4 over the northeastern portion of Babuyan Islands and the southern portion of Batanes. Typhoon Chanthu is located about 530 kilometers south-southeast of Taiwan's southernmost tip of Eluanbi as of 03:00 UTC today. The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) of Taiwan has already issued a land warning for Super Typhoon Chanthu. Super Typhoon Chanthu is forecast to continue turning north-northwest and weaken to a Category 4-equivalent before making landfall in southern Taiwan on Sept. 11. The storm's center is forecast to move near or over Taipei as a Category 2 storm.

Typhoon Megi slams into Taiwan - 5 dead, damage worth $31.9 million

Typhoon Megi triggers flooding in east China's coastal city (CCTV Plus) September 29, 2016: Typhoon Megi (Typhoon Helen in Philippines) has claimed lives of a least five people and caused damage worth $31.9 million. At least four died across Taiwan, while more 625 others have been injured by the disaster. The typhoon left at least one person dead in China.

Taiwan Snow 2016: Severe weather kills 85

Severe weather in Taiwan has claimed lives of at least 85 people, mostly from hypothermia and the onset of cardiovascular diseases. Snowstorm killed 66 people in Taipei, New Taipei and Taoyuan, further 16 died in Kaohsiung and three in Pingtung, Shanghaiist reported.

Thousands evacuated as strong Typhoon Dujuan nears Taiwan

Strong Typhoon Dujuan (Typhoon Jenny in Philippines) is forecast to bring torrential rains and high winds across Taiwan, with landfall predicted around 15:00 GMT Monday. Almost 3,000 people, most of them tourists, were evacuated Sunday from Taiwan's Green Island and Orchid Island, Yahoo News reported.

Typhoon Soudelor kills 28 in China and Taiwan

Typhoon Soudelor has claimed lives of at least 28 people and left several more missing as it battered Taiwan and China over the weekend. According to China National Commission for Disaster Reduction, atleast 21 people died by typhoon-related impact in China. Fatalities are from Zhejiang, Fujian, Anhui and Jiangxi provinces of China. Flooding in Hinthada township, Ayeyarwaddy delta, Myanmar (AP Photo/Khin Maung Win)  Similarly, Typhoon Soudelor killed seven people and injured more than 400 people in Taiwan, Central Disaster Emergency Operation Center said. Chinese authorities have issued a grade-IV emergency response to Typhoon Soudelor in east China's Zhejiang Province on Sunday, Xinhua reported. Last week, Typhoon Soudelor hammered the island of Saipan in the Western Pacific ocean leaving trails of widespread damage. President Obama declared the Northern Mariana Island, including Saipan, under a State of Disaster on Thursday.

Mudslide in Pingtung County of Taiwan has injured at least 17 people, local medias reported. According to the Taiwan News, mudslide hit a train (Tze-Chiang Limited Express) near a tunnel in Pingtung County. Several other rockslides event have been recorded across Taiwan. Tropical Storm in Taiwan: Kong-Rey kills 3

Tropical Storm Kong-Rey has caused widespread flooding in Taiwan and claimed lives of at least three people, emergency officials said. According to the National Fire Agency, two people died in Yunlin area and another one in southern Pingtung county. Tropical Storm Kong-Rey caused heavy flooding in coastal areas of Chiayi, Tainan and Kaohsiung. Kong-Rey, tropical storm in Taiwan has caused Tw$187 million or $6.23 million in agricultural damage in the south,the Council of Agriculture said. More than 30 domestic and international flights to or from capital Taipei and Kaohsiung were cancelled. Similarly Taiwan Railway Administration had also suspended some services in the south. Tropical Storm Kong-Rey floods Taiwan

Tropical Storm Kong-Rey has caused widespread flooding in western cities in Taiwan. Coastal areas of Chiayi, Tainan and Kaohsiung are reported to be worst affected by the floods. Tropical Storm Kong-Rey has dumped more than 500 millimeters (19 inches) of rain on the heavily populated west coast, AP reported. More than 30 domestic and international flights to or from capital Taipei and Kaohsiung have been cancelled. Similarly Taiwan Railway Administration has also suspended some services in the south. Typhoon Soulik kills 5 in China, Taiwan

Typhoon Soulik has claimed lives of at least five people in China and Taiwan. The typhoon claimed three lives in Guangdong province of China, Xinhua reported. About 250 millimetres of rainfall has been recorded in just 20 hours. More than 500,000 people were evacuated from Fujian and Zhejiang, disaster management center said. Typhoon Soulik claims 2, injures 104

Update 17:00 UTC Death toll from Typhoon Soulik has risen to two with more than 104 injured. One person is still reported to be missing. Typhoon Soulik has made landfall in Fujian Province of China. Soulik made landfall on the Huangqi Peninsula in Lianjiang County at 4 p.m. Typhoon Soulik in Taiwan has claimed life of at least one people and injured 21 others, disaster emergency center said. Disaster emergency center has identified the person as a 50 year old policeman from Taipei.  The Central Emergency Operation Centre has already moved more than eight thousand people from their homes. All schools and offices in Taiwan are closed today and Several Airlines including Cathay Pacific and China Airlines have cancelled their flights to Taiwan. Taiwan authorities are distributing water pumps and sandbags to prevent flooding in low-lying areas. Typhoon Soulik made landfall in Taiwan at around 03:00 on Saturday morning. M 6.2 Taiwan earthquake today kills 2

M 6.2 very strong earthquake shakes Taiwan today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 22 km SSE of Buli. It was 12.4 miles deep. Taiwan earthquake today has killed two people and injured at least 21 others, CTV News reported. Following Taiwan Fire Agency, rockslide from Mountain Ali killed a man whereas another died in rockslide in Chushan. Tremors were severely felt in the central and southern regions of Taiwan. Yesterday magnitude 5.6 earthquake in North Cotabato province of Philippines injured at least 33 people and damaged more than 140 houses. The 1935 Hsinchu-Taichung earthquake is the deadliest earthquake in Taiwan. M 6.0 strong earthquake shakes central Taiwan today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The epicenter located 61 km far from Taichung and 139 km S of Taipei. Following ABC news quoting emergency officials in Taiwan, a 72 years old woman died in house collpse in Nantou county. -At least 19 people have been injured, mostly by falling objects.
