Strong earthquake near Taichung, Taiwan: 1 killed in Nantou

M 6.0 strong earthquake shakes central Taiwan today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The epicenter located 61 km far from Taichung and 139 km S of Taipei.

-Total number of injured people has risen to 90.
-An emergency center has been opened in Nantou.

-Earthquake in Taichung has killed one people. Following ABC news quoting emergency officials in Taiwan, a 72 years old woman died in house collpse in Nantou county.
-At least 19 people have been injured, mostly by falling objects. Total 14 people injured in Taichung, 4 in Nantou and 1 in Changhua county.

-At least 20 people are reported to be injured in Nantou County.
-Tremor was even felt in Fujian province.

-Taiwan's high speed rail company has suspended all trains as a precaution. The metro system in the capital Taipei has also been temporarily suspended.

MMI IV (light): Buli, Hualian, Douliu, Zhongxing New Village, Taichung and Lugu.
MMI II-III (weak): Taipei, Banqiao, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Fuzhou.

M 6.0 strong earthquake shakes central Taiwan today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 61 km far from Taichung and 139 km S of Taipei. It was 12.9 miles deep.

Taiwan's central weather bureau has recorded the magnitude at 6.1 and said it shook buildings in the Taiwanese capital Taipei too.

Magnitude 5.6 earthquake shook Taipei in the beginning of march 2013 too. The 1935 Hsinchu-Taichung earthquake is the deadliest earthquake in Taiwan. Earthquake claimed 3,276 lives.
