3.9 magnitude earthquake rattles Vijayapura and Kolhapur today

September 4, 2021: A light earthquake of magnitude 3.9 has been felt in Vijayapura (also called Bijapur) in Karnataka state of India today at 11:49 pm.

According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), the earthquake occurred in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, bordered with Karnataka.

The epicenter was located 19 km W of Kolhapur, Maharashtra, the National Center for Seismology confirmed. The earthquake occurred at 39 km depth.

The tremor was felt in various cities of Maharashtra and Karnataka.

People living in Vijayapura City, Basavana Bagewadi, Tikota, Indi and Sindagi areas ran out of their houses immediately after the tremor.

No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported.
