Magnitude 7.5 earthquake in Peru-Ecuador border region

February 22, 2019: An earthquake of magnitude 7.5 has been recorded in Peru-Ecuador border region, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

The earthquake occurred at a greater depth of 287 km. It is the reason the earthquake was felt in wider region of Ecuador.

It was followed by a 5.5 magnitude earthquake that occurred less than 25 minutes later in western Ecuador, near the city of Guayaquil.

According to the National Risk and Emergency Management Service of Ecuador, six people were injured in Gualaquiza, Macas and Cuenca.
