Flooding in Mumbai kills 14 as heaviest rainfall since 1997 hits the region

September 2, 2017: At least 14 people died in Mumbai after heavy rainfall triggered flooding on August 29, 2017.

Mumbai recorded 468 mm of rainfall in twelve hours, the highest in a day in August since 1997, according to data from the India Meteorological Department.

According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), this South Asian floods is one of the worst regional humanitarian crises in years.
