LIVE UPDATES on Nepal floods 2017

Monsoon-caused floods has claimed lives of over a hundred people in Nepal and northern India. Disaster-Report.Com is bringing the latest updates of flood damage across Nepal.

Government of Nepal has decided to provide an immediate relief assistance of Rs 15,000 to a every poor family affected by the recent floods and landslides.

The death toll has risen to 120 and at least 35 people have been missing. Home Minister Janardhan Sharma said, around 80 percent of the land in flood-affected Tarai districts have been inundated, addressing a meeting of Legislature-Parliament today.

The flood relief distribution in the 12 flood-affected districts in Tarai has begun from today.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has prohibited the organisations and individuals from collecting funds under the pretext of distributing relief to flood and landslide survivors.

Separate accounts in various banks in the name of Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund have been opened for the distribution of relief to the persons and families affected by the disasters. Any organisation or individual willing to support the disaster victims should deposit the amount in the bank accounts.

The monsoon trough line has now shifted from the Churiya range of Nepal to India. According to Flood Forecasting Section of Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, flood alert still continues for Bagmati, Riu Khola, East Rapti, Babai and West Rapti rivers until tomorrow morning.

According to the Nepal Policce, the death toll from floods and landslides across Nepal has risen to 80. At least 2847 houses have been damaged and 48,316 houses remain submerged in the flood water.

At least four bodies of Nepalese have been recovered from Indian territory after being swept away by the river flood. All the fatalities belong to the residents of border region of Morang district of Nepal.

Traffic has now resumed along the Muglin-Narayangadh road section. Landslide had blocked the road section at Panchkilo since last night.

The Jamdighat Bridge over Babai River has caved in due to floodwater. This 400-metre bridge links the East-West Highway.

According to the Domestic Airlines Services, the flights to and from Biratnagar will be halted for a few more days. Recent floods have submerged the Biratnagar Airport.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology Flood Forecasting Section, the Babai River at Bhada Bridge in Mid-Western Nepal is flowing above the warning level. The water level has reached 7.89 meter and flowing at 1200.19 meter cube/second. The danger level is 8.

According to the Home Ministry, the death toll from floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains for the past three days has risen to 66. At least 53 people still remain missing in various districts of Nepal.

Government is having difficulty in dispatching necessary assistance and relief materials to the affected families due to the challenging weather.

According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, SMS services have been made free in flood-affected areas. All telecom service providers of Nepal have waived the SMS charges to aid people caught in floods and landslides across the country.

Nepal government has decided to provide ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to each family who lost their loved ones in floods and landslides.

Indian government has issued directives to the concerned authorities to open the dam gates. It was formulated after Nepal's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Krishna Bahadur Mahara talked to India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj  and requested her to open gates of dams in border areas.

Six members of a family, including a pregnant woman died after a jeep they were travelling submerged in floodwaters on the road in Rajpur Phardahawa Rural Municipality, Rautahat.

At least 57 people have been killed across Nepal. Casualties by districts:

Sunsari: 8
Rautahat: 7
Morang: 5
Jhapa: 4
Sindhuli: 4
Banke, Bara, Sarlahi, Dang and Surkhet: 3 each

Nepal Army (NA) personnel have rescued over 1,000 flood-survivors and relocated them to the safer places including 300 students stranded at Jagatpur in Chitwan district.

Red light at Koshi barrage


A red light has been light up after increase in water flow in the Saptakoshi River. The river recorded 192,300 cusec/per second water flow in the river.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara has urged India to open all doors of Koshi barrage to prevent any further damages.
