New Bohol sinkhole creates panic

New Bohol sinkhole has created panic after the residents have been advised to evacuate the area. Mines and Geosciences Bureau has warned high threat of a landslide due to the new sinkhole in Tagbilaran City in Bohol. Four people died as a sinkhole "swallowed" a house in Brgy. Ubojan, Antequerra, Bohol some days ago. According to the Philippine Information Agency's (PIA) Bohol office, sinkhole in Poblacion 1 is one of 50 sinkholes in Tagbilaran City that emerged after the Oct. 15 quake. Flash floods hit Bedok and Chai Chee, Singapore

Heavy showers triggered flash flooding in Chai Chee, Bedok, Siglap and Marine Parade of eastern Singapore Wednesday afternoon. Floods made traffic impassable at the junction of New Upper Changi Road and Chai Chee Road at around 12.45 pm. Dust storm in Arizona kills 3

Dust storm in Arizona has claimed lives of at least three people and injured more than a dozen. Dust storm caused multiple crashes on Interstate 10 north of Picacho Peak, Arizona Department of Public Safety said. At least 19 vehicles piled up in the multiple collisions. St Jude storm kills 13 in Germany, Britain, Netherlands and Denmark

St Jude storm, the severe European windstorm has claimed lives of at least 13 people. Out of 13, six death have been reported from Germany, five in Britain and one each in Netherlands and Denmark. The mother and her child died when a tree fell on their car near Gelsenkirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia. Similarly, a sailor died near Cologne, Germany when his boat capsized on a lake. In Hounslow, west London, one man died in house collapse following a suspected gas explosion. Three houses collapsed and two others were damaged following the explosion this morning, London Fire Brigade said in its website. Similarly a sleeping teenage girl died when a tree fell on a caravan in Edenbridge, Kent. Winds of up to 100mph has swept through the southern UK, The Guardian reported in its live reporting section. Wild weather lashes New South Wales, 6 injured

At least six people have been injured as wild weather hit New South Wales, Australia, Tuesday afternoon. Trees and power lines fell on three people at Engadine in Sydney's south, The Guardian reported. They were immediately taken to St George hospital in a stable condition. Around 280 calls have been received by the State Emergency Service for assistance. A severe weather warning is currently in place for parts of the greater Newcastle, Cessnock and Maitland areas. UK Storm 2013: St Jude storm in Britain kills 4

Update 2013/10/29; 06:50 UTC Altogether 13 people have been killed due to St Jude storm. Out of 13, six death have been reported from Germany, five in Britain and one each in Netherlands and Denmark. Update 15:55 UTC -Death toll from storm in UK has risen to four. London Fire Brigade has confirmed another fatality from a gas explosion on Bath Road in Hounslow. Altogether storm has claimed lives of five people in UK (4) and Netherlands (1). -Several bridges have been closed in Denmark as the storm hit the west coast of Jutland. -Sweden has cancelled all passenger trains in the south of the country. 26 houses flooded in Gua Musang, Malaysia

Heavy rainfall has flooded at least 26 houses in Gua Musang district of Pahang, Malaysia, The Star Online reported. Several of the 100 residents have been forced to leave their homes in Kampung Batu Papan, Kampung Kundur and Kampung Pulai villages of Gua Musang. Mount Etna volcano eruption in Italy closes airspace

Mount Etna volcano eruption in Italy has briefly closed airspace nearby, Catania Airport said today. Plume of ashes was visible from much of eastern Sicily. Kolkata flood kills 1, injures other

Flooding in Kolkata, India has claimed life of a person and injured another person this Saturday. Heavy downpour has affected train and other transport services in Parganas district, Howrah, Purba Midnapore districts and the lower parts of the Damodar valley. Kolkata has received about 105 mm rainfall since Friday night, The Hindu reported quoting the Regional Meteorological Centre, Alipor. Some long distant trains have been cancelled by the South Eastern Railway. Kolkata flood 1978 had claimed lives of 1,370 people and affected 156.25 lakhs people. According to a study by researchers from the Netherlands and the UK in 2012, Kolkata is one of the world’s most flood-prone coastal city after Shanghai (China) and Dhaka (Bangladesh). Massive landslide in Denali National Park, Alaska – Could take 10 days to clear

Massive landslide has blocked Denali National Park road in Alaska at Mile 37 where the road leads up to Sable Pass. According to the USA Today, about 30,000 yards of rock and soil fell from a point 500 feet above the road piling the debris in depths of up to 35 feet. It could take as long as 10 days to make the road passable again, News Miner reported quoting deputy park superintendent Elwood Lynn. The road is currently closed to traffic. M 7.3 Japan earthquake creates Tsunami

Update 2013/10/26; 01:35 UTC -Tsunamis of up to 40 centimetres were reported at four areas along the coast. -Workers at the Fukushima power station were told to leave waterfront areas for higher ground. -An evacuation order was also issued in some municipalities in Iwate Prefecture and Miyagi Prefectures. Indonesia's Mount Sinabung volcano eruption Thursday has prompted evacuation of more than 3,300 people, weather.com reported quoting National Mitigation Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho. Most of the evacuated people are from two villages within 3 kilometers of the mountain in Karo district. The powerful explosion at Mount Sinabung spewed black ash 3 kilometers into the air. Tornadoes in Bandung and Pandeglang, Indonesia injure 7

Tornadoes in Bandung and Pandeglang region of Indonesia have injured seven people and damaged 350 houses, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said. A tornado first hit the Bandung sub districts of Ciparay and Cimenyan at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday seriously injuring one person. Another tornado hit Pandeglang sub district of Banjar, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) added. According to The Jakarta Globe, the tornado damage is being assessed. An official report has shown that numbers of tornadoes in Indonesia have increased by 28 times since 2002. 2 dead, 1 missing as river floods in Malaysia

Water released from a dam caused Bertam River to flood the Cameron Highlands claiming lives of two foreigners with another missing. Rescuers have found dead bodies of an Indonesian woman and a Bangladeshi man. River also flooded 80 squatter homes nearby, AFP reported. Tornado in France today has claimed life of a person and injured two others, local medias reported. Tornado caused heavy damages in Steent'je, near the French northern city of Bailleul. Tornado in Hayling Island, England injures 100

At least 100 people have been injured in tornado in Hayling Island in Hampshire. Tornado has damaged properties in Blackthorn Road and Ilex Walk, BBC Weather reported.  A major tornado cleanup operation is underway. Hailstorm in Bogra, Bangladesh injures 6

At least six people have been injured in hailstorm in Sherpur, Bogra this Sunday afternoon. Hailstorm also suspended traffic on the Dhaka-Dinajpur Highway for nearly half an hour, Dhaka Tribune reported. Bogra is one of the oldest towns in northern Bangladesh. Hail, lightning and high winds hit Southeast Queensland

Hail, lightning and high winds hit Southeast Queensland, Australia leaving a trail of destruction. A freak lightning strike on a tree in Sunnybank caused extensive damage to nearby homes, news.com.au reported. Wind gusts of 124km/h with 2cm hail stones have been recorded in Oakey. Bohol earthquake 2013 (updates, pictures, videos)

M 7.2 extremely dangerous earthquake in Bohol, Philippines has claimed lives of at least 171 people and injured more than 300 people. The Bohol earthquake 2013 which occurred on October 15, 2013 at 00:12 (UTC) had its epicenter located just 5 km E of Balilihan, Philippines. It was 35.3 miles deep. According to recent official reports by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), 171 have been reported dead, 20 missing, and 375 people have been injured from 2013 Bohol earthquake. Fatalities are from Bohol, Cebu and Siquijor. The town of Loon, Bohol, has the largest number of casualties. Australia wildfires kill 1, destroy 80 homes

Nearly 100 wildfires across Australia have claimed life of a person and destroyed at least 80 houses. A 63-year-old man died from a heart attack from a fire at Lake Munmorah, north of Sydney, The Sydney Morning Herald reported. According to the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), nearly 100 fires are still burning in New South Wales state in Australia's east and more than 30 of those fires are not contained. Emergency warnings remained in place for fires in the Blue Mountains and the Central Coast, just north of Sydney. Tidal flooding has caused trouble across several South Florida beach communities. High tides have caused flooding in Alton Road and 10th Street and Alton and 5th Street on Miami Beach. Minor earthquake shakes Kinneret, Israel

M 3.5 minor earthquake shakes Kinneret, Israel Thursday night, the Geophysical Institute of Israel said. According to the Geophysical Institute of Israel, the quake's epicenter was in Lake Kinneret. Tremor was felt at around 9:20 pm. The earthquake was also felt in Nazareth Illit, the YNetNews reported. No damage or injuries have been reported. Mudslide traps 20 in Cross Rivers, Nigeria

A mudslide at Obudu Mountain Resort in Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State has trapped at least 20 people, local medias reported. Team of NEMA, SEMA and the Nigerian Air Force have been involved in rescue opertations. The Nigerian Air Force Augusta 109 from 305 Flying Training School Enugu, Super Puma, and MI 24 helicopters have also joined the rescue operations, Channel TV reported. Typhoon Nari kills 11 in Vietnam

Typhoon Nari has left 11 dead and 5 missing in Vietnam. Floods have inundated more than 34,000 homes. Typhoon Nari hit Vietnam's central coast early Tuesday after crossing the Philippines over the weekend, killing 13 people there, AFP reported. The poor weather from the remnants of Typhoon Nari has been cited as a probable cause for the crash of Lao Airlines Flight 301 yesterday in Laos. Mount Everest avalanche kills 4, evacuates 86

Avalanche on Mount Everest has claimed lives of at least four people, Xinhua reported. Avalanche hit four Australian tourists, accompanied by six Tibetans. Fatalities include three local porters and a 60-year-old Australian man. A tour group was organized by the Tibet Longda International Travel Agency. On Monday, rescuers evacuated 86 tourists stranded by heavy snow from a base camp on Mount Everest. Everest base camp avalanche in May 2013 killed a climber. 1996 Mount Everest avalanche claimed lives of eight people. Reports have shown that over 200 people have died trying to climb Mount Everest till now. Mount Everest is the Earth's highest mountain located in Nepal at 8,848 metres above sea level. Very severe cyclonic storm Phailin: India's biggest evacuation operation in 23 years, 43 killed

Very severe cyclonic storm Phailin has affected people in India, Thailand, Myanmar and Nepal claiming lives of at least 43 people in India, local medias reported. Cyclone Phailin triggered India's biggest evacuation operation in 23 years, NDTV reported. About 5,50,000 people have been evacuated from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.   Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has announced Rs. 2 lakh to each of those killed in Cyclone Phailin and Rs. 50,000 for those seriously injured. Tornado damage in Eads, Colorado

Cyclone Phailin heads towards Odisha and AP

Sorry for the inconvenience- Disaster Report Cyclone Phailin which is moving in from the Bay of Bengal, is forecast to hit between Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Paradip in Odisha state on the evening of October 12, disaster management and weather officials said today. Heavy rains, gale force winds and storm surges are also forecast in West Bengal, and the Andaman and Nicobar islands. Cyclone Phailin is gaining an extra speed of 10 kph every three hours, Yahoo India reported quoting a National Disaster Management Authority. Flash floods in Algeria have claimed lives of at least seven people, emergency services said. Two rivers burst their banks in Djelfa and flooded the nearby areas. Landslide in Gabon's capital Libreville kills 2

Landslide in Gabon's capital Libreville has claimed lives of at least two people, local medias reported. Landslide occurred after heavy rainfall around 5 a.m. claiming lives of a mother and at least one of her children.   More than 100 police, gendarmes and rescue workers are looking for the woman’s young daughter and involved in disaster cleanup. Mt. Sakurajima in Japan erupts with 3-km plume

Mount Sakurajima in Kagoshima Prefecture on Kyushu island of Japan erupted on Monday, sending a plume of ash and smoke to a height of 3 km. According to the Kagoshima Local Meteorological Observatory, the recent volcanic activity of Mount Sakurajima has been continuing since the night of October 3. Ash fall has been widely confirmed in Kagoshima City. No injuries have been reported. This is the 702nd explosive eruption observed at the Mt. Sakurajima volcano this year. Lebanon forest fire forces school to evacuate

A forest fire in Lebanon prompted a nearby school to evacuate students injuring a firefighter, The Daily Star reported. Forest fire hit the southern Sidon town of Maghdouche causing the evacuation of students and teachers at the nearby Al-Aila School. One rescue soldier was injured. The Army along with a helicopter have been dispatched to the area. In August 2013, forest fire affected al-Bira and Sendyaneh areas of Lebanon . Typhoon Fitow leaves 5 dead in China

At least five people have died, and four others have been missing as Typhoon Fitow hit east China's Zhejiang Province, Xinhua reported. Two men died in Wenzhou city in Zhejiang province while three people died in the city of Ruian because of electric shocks. Typhoon Fitow has affected over 3 million people in eight cities of Zhejiang, causing direct economic damage of 2.28 billion yuan, according to the provincial flood control office. About 56 bullet trains and 20 flights have been cancelled in Fujian. The National Meteorological Centre (NMC) has issued a red alert for Typhoon Fitow which is named after a flower from Micronesia. Emergency officials have warned more rainfall from Fitow along with the approaching Typhoon Danas. Typhoon Fitow, the 23rd typhoon to hit China this year , made landfall in Fujian on early Monday. Typhoon Fitow has caused direct economic damage of 2.28 billion yuan, according to the provincial flood control office. Hangzhou International Airport has canceled 22 flights on Monday. Bayawan flooding kills 2

Flooding in Bayawan, Philippines has claimed lives of at least two people and caused the evacuation of 2,000 peoples. Twelve hours of continuous rains caused the overflow of rivers in Bayawan City, Sta. Catalina and Basay, Sun Star has written quoting Negros Oriental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) action officer. Evacuated people are living in gymnasium, campus and churches. All the regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council members are said to be on alert status. Tornado emergency for Cherokee, Iowa

A tornado hit Sioux City, Iowa, about 6:30 p.m local time, the National Weather Service said. A tornado emergency has been declared for Cherokee, Iowa. A tornado warning remains in effect for northeastern Cherokee county until 8:00 PM CDT. The tornadoes affect mainly rural areas of northeastern Cherokee county, the National Weather Service said. Tornado sirens have gone off in Sioux City, South Dakota. Similarly golf ball sized hail has been reported near Mason City. Tropical Storm Karen prompts state of emergency in Louisiana

Tropical Storm Karen has prompted state of emergency in the U.S. state of Louisiana which is forecast to hit the Gulf Coast between the state and the Florida Panhandle in the next few days. Extremely heavy rainfall, high tides and flash floods is predicted in the coastal and inland parishes of emergency declared Louisiana. As of 7 a.m. CDT (1200 UTC) October 4, Tropical Storm Karen was located about 445 km south-southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River. Tte National Weather Service has issued a hurricane warning, a tropical storm watch and a coastal flood advisory for the next 3 days in parts of southeastern Louisiana. The tropical storm Karen could briefly reach hurricane strength before hitting land, weather officials said. Andrea was the first named storm of the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season. Strong storm in Galway, Ireland has damaged buildings and knocked down several trees. Damages have been reported in several houses in the Clonfert and Banagher areas. Typhoon Wutip kills 3, injures 35 in Vietnam

Typhoon Wutip has claimed lives of at least three people and injured 35 others in Vietnam, Xinhua reported. According to the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control, all fatalities are from Quang Binh province of central Vietnam while the other 35 injured people are from Ha Tinh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces. 5 dead in Chaffee County landslide

Landslide in Chaffee County, Colorado has claimed lives of at least five people and injured a 13-year-old girl, Denver Post reported. Injured girl has been airlifted to Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora with a broken leg. Landslide occurred on a hiking trail to Agnes Vaille in Pike and San Isabel National Forest located some 2½-hour drive south of Denver. According to the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office, landslide occurred at around 11:00 a.m. Mudslide and flash flooding in Colorado Springs killed one and injured three others in August 2013. Typhoon Wutip leaves 74 missing in China, Thailand, Vietnam prepare flooding

At least seventy-four fishermen have been missing after typhoon Wutip sunk three fishing boats in the South China Sea. Rescuers however rescued 14 other fisherman from the boats which were sailing from the southern province of Guangdong, Xinhua reported. At least 10 ships and six planes have been involved in rescue operations. More than 8,000 villagers in Quang Tri province of Vietnam have been moved to safe ground. Puyallup tornado damages buildings

An EF-1 tornado touched down near Puyallup, causing damage to buildings and tipping a train off its tracks, The National Weather Service confirmed. According to the weather officials, Puyallup tornado was on the ground for five minutes or less. The twister was 75 yards wide and had maximum winds of 110 mph. Tornado damaged buildings at Frederickson 777 and 787 manufacturing plant, KING 5 reported. Storm caused heavy rainfall in Olympia and Seattle area.
