Tornado emergency for Cherokee, Iowa

A tornado hit Sioux City, Iowa, about 6:30 p.m local time, the National Weather Service said.

A tornado emergency has been declared for Cherokee, Iowa.

A tornado warning remains in effect for northeastern Cherokee county until 8:00 PM CDT. The tornadoes affect mainly rural areas of northeastern Cherokee county, the National Weather Service said.

Tornado sirens have gone off in Sioux City, South Dakota.

Similarly golf ball sized hail has been reported near Mason City.
