Sri Lanka storm kills 18, other 36 missing

Monsoon storms in Sri Lanka have claimed lives of at least 18 people and made other 36 missing, Colombo Page reported.

Disaster occurred after boats carrying fisherman caught in rough waters, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development officer said.

Special operation by the Navy and Air Force have rescued 20 fisherman but 36 are still missing at sea.

Armies have been deployed for disaster cleanup.

Sri Lankan Department of Meteorology had issued a weather alert earlier obstructing fisherman to go to the sea area.

Cyclonic storm in Sri Lanka in May 2013 claimed several lives.
