The earthquake which struck at 15:07 GMT had its epicenter located 113 km far from El Pinar. This is so far the strongest earthquake in 2013 close to El Hierro volcano in Canary Islands. Luckily the earthquake's epicenter was out in the sea!
Around 230 earthquakes have been recorded west of Frontera, IHI from yesterday (March 27) till now (08:00 GMT). Most of the earthquakes are less than magnitude 3.0
Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) had earlier predicted 23% chance of magnitude 4.6 earthquake near El Hierro volcano in the Canary Island. The earthquake prediction comes true.

Several rockfalls have been reported along the road of Frontera-Sabinosa.
La dirección del Plan de Protección Civil por Riesgo Volcánico (PEVOLCA) has declared Yellow Alert for the western part of the Canary Islands.
Emergency official have said that there is no big danger to the population as most of the earthquakes are occurring with epicenter in the sea. However people are urged to be self-prepared at home.
The October 2011 - March 2012 El Hierro eruption was underwater, with a fissure of vents located approximately 2 km to the south of La Restinga. El Hierro (Isla del Meridiano) is located west of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa.
