  • Avalanche in Glencoe, Scotland
    -Three climbers are reported to be missing in Scotland avalanche disaster.
    -Avalanche hit Bidean nam Bian, Glencoe, Scotland at about 14:00.
    -Two other climbers were rescued  who are currently having treatment in Belford hospital in Fort William.
    -Glencoe and Lochaber mountain rescue teams along with police search and rescue dogs are searching the missing climbers.
    -The 2009 Buachaille Etive Mor avalanche on Buachaille Etive Mòr in Glen Coe in the Scottish Highlands, UK killed three climbers (Photo: Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team at the foot of Bidean Nam Bian; PA).
    Update
    -Four people are confirmed dead in Glencoe, Scotland Avalanche.
    -Avalanche in Scotland killed two men and two women.
    -Avalanche warning was issued an hour earlier by the SportsScotland Avalanche Information Service.

  • M 3.7 light shallow earthquake in Fyr of Macedonia (@ 2 km depth) with epicenter located just 8 km SW Capari. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of  Resen, Elbasan,  Bukovo and Bitola.

  • M 3.8 light shallow earthquake in Portugal (@ 15 km depth) with epicenter located 7 km SE São teotónio. It will have well felt by the people of Silves, Setúbal and Olhao.
    17:53 UTC (local time 17:53; 2013/01/19 @ epicenter)
  • M 5.4 moderate earthquake in Samar, Philippines (@ 81 km depth) with epicenter located 17 km NNE of Lawa-an. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Borongan, Panalanoy, Tacloban, Calbayog, Catbalogan, Tanauan and Cebu.

  • M 4.3 light shallow earthquake in  South Island of New Zealand (@ 18 km depth) with epicenter located just 9 km WSW of Christchurch. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Kaiapoi and Christchurch. People of Timaru, Oamaru and Wellington will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Bolivia (Madre de Dios), Brazil (Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq (Shatt al Arab and Tigris), Kenya (Tana), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile, White Nile), Syria (Euphrates), Tanzania.
  • Flooding in Kruger National Park, Africa
    -Flooding has mainly affected the eastern entrance to Kruger National Park.
    -The river near the Malelane gate has swollen and flooded Kruger National Park.
    -The Crocodile bridge has also flooded.
    -Heavy rains have also flooded Carltonville, Johannesburg area.
    -In January 2012, Kruger National Park was hit by worst flooding in ten years. Several tourists trapped in South Africa's Kruger National Park after torrential rains and flooding were rescued then.
    -The 2000 Kruger National Park flood is described as an ‘once-in-one-hundred-years' flood.
