-Emergency condition declared in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. Authorities have urged residents in the coastal areas of New Orleans, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama to evacuate due to the fear of occurrence of a catastrophe similar to the one caused by Hurricane Katrina seven years ago. Hurricane Katrina killed more than 1,800 people.
-Isaac is expected to make landfall Tuesday night or early Wednesday. At 12:20 p.m. ET, Isaac had 75 mph sustained winds, a mile above the speed needed for a Category 1 hurricane.
-The ports of Mobile and New Orleans have been closed.
-Delta Air Lines canceled about 30 Tuesday flights into and out of New Orleans, Gulfport, Miss., Mobile, Ala. and Pensacola, Fla.
Governor Jindal announced that he would not be attending the 2012 Republican National Convention and will remain in his state to take care of storm-related problems.
Mississippi: A mandatory evacuation ordered for all areas south of 90 in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Gautier, Mississippi and Pascagoula, Mississippi.
Officials dispatched 1,500 National Guard troops to the state's three southern counties, as well as 45 state troopers to ease traffic flow.
Alabama: A mandatory evacuation ordered for Baldwin and Mobile counties. Governor Bentley announced that he would not be attending the 2012 Republican National Convention, and will remain in his state to take care of storm-related problems.
-Isaac passed over Hispaniola and Cuba as a strong tropical storm, killing at least 24, as it entered the Gulf of Mexico.
-It is the first hurricane to hit the Gulf Coast since 2008.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for east of Morgan City Louisiana to the Mississippi-Alabama border including metropolitan New Orleans, Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas. Isaac is expected to produce total rainfall amounts of 7 to 14 inches with possible isolated maximum amounts of 20 inches in southeastern Louisiana, southern Mississippi, southern Alabama and the extreme western Florida Panhandle.Louisiana: A mandatory evacuation ordered for St. Charles Parish and for the east bank of Plaquemines Parish and in Lafourche Parish below the Leon Theriot floodgates in Golden Meadow. About 4,000 National Guard troops have been activated in the state.
