Recent Natural Disasters
  • Wildfire in Greece

    -A state of emergency declared due to wildfires in Southwest of Greece.
    -Wildfire reported in the region of Argyra in Achaia. It affected Argyra, Kato Kastritsi, Magoula, Sella and Platani, north of Rio. Another wildfire reported at Zevgolatio in Corinthia.
    -70 firefighters with 21 fire engines, two firefighting planes and a water-dropping helicopter struggling to control the blaze.
    -About 50 residents of the western port of Patras evacuated immediately.
    -More than 60 people were killed in forest fire disaster across southern Greece in 2007.
  • Flooding in Sierra Vista, Arizona
    -Two injured by flood waters south of Sierra Vista, Arizona.
    -Injured people were taken to a Sierra Vista hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises.
    -Two days ago, two people were rescued in Tucson area during rainstorm.
    -Another flood advisory issued for Cochise County, AZ.
    -Sierra Vista is a city in Cochise County, Arizona, United States.

  • M 4.0 light earthquake in Western Turkey (@ 7 km depth) with epicenter located 7 km S Mugla. Weak shaking will have felt as far as Nazilli  and Izmir.

  • M 4.1 light earthquake in Turkmenistan (@ 35 km depth) with epicenter located 50 km ENE of Turkmenbasy. It will have well felt by the people of Balkanabat, Gumdag and Gazanjyk.

  • M 3.7 light shallow earthquake in Baja California, Mexico (@ 18 km depth) with epicenter located just 18 km SW from Guadalupe Victoria. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of San Luis Río Colorado, San Luis and Tijuana.

  • M 5.9 strong but harmless earthquake in Fiji Region (@ 534 km depth) with epicenter located 27 km ESE of Ndoi Island. It will have just faintly felt by the people of Nuku`alofa, Suva and Lambasa.

    -Visits to the crater of Rincón de la Vieja Volcano prohibited due to increase in the volcanic activity.

  • Flooding in Western Sudan/Eastern Chad, Sudan
    -Heavy rainfall across western Sudan and eastern Chad caused localized flash floods.
  • Flooding in Turpan, China
    -Four people rescued by firefighters from a flash flood in Turpan.

Tropical Cyclone List
  • Tropical Storm Khanun
    -As of 01:00 UTC, TS Khanun was located 280 nm south of cheju-do, South Korea.
  • Tropical Storm Fabio
    -As of 01:00 UTC, TS Fabio was located 1105 km W of the southern tip of Baja California.
    -Fabio is expected to become a remnant low early today (Wednesday).

Natural Disaster News
  • Wildfire in Majorca, Canary Islands
    -Hundreds of people evacuated after wildfire in Majorca (Mallorca) area.
    -Fire burned about 60 hectares of vegetation in Majorca. Majorca or Mallorca is an island located in the Mediterranean Sea, one of the Balearic Islands.
  • Wildfire in Portugal
    -Five Wildfires reported in Portugal with worst in Portugain Povoa de Santa Iria near Lisbon
  • Tornado in Quebec, Canada
    -Tornado watch issued for Richelieu Valley and Saint-Hyacinthe of western Quebec.
    -Severe thunderstorms along with damaging winds and heavy rainfall forecast for these regions.
  • Tornado in Sherman County, Kansas
    -A tornado reported in Sherman County, KS. More reports yet to come.
