Recent Natural Disasters

  • Heavy flooding in Nepal
    -Over 2,000 houses and cottages affected by floods in Deukhuri of Dang. More than 4000 people have been affected due to recent floods.
    -Parts of Sonpur, Sisahaniya, Duekhuri and Lalmatiya VDC worst affected by floods.
    -Two people are still reported to be missing in Rukum and Dhankuta district of Nepal.
    -Flood affected around 20 houses in Lahan Municipality-4 of Nepal.
    -Four households of Chisapani have been displaced by floods and landslides.
    -Many people living near Ratuwa riverbanks have been displaced by floods.
    -A joint team of Nepali Army and Armed Police Force is currently working on the Mardi river, from where drinking water was being supplied to Pokhara residents before the Seti river swept away pipelines.
    -During monsoon season, floods are very common disaster in Nepal.

  • M 3.6 light shallow earthquake in Central California (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located just 10 km NW from New Idria. It will have well felt by the people of Fresno, Salinas, Clovis, Merced, Madera, Hanford, Watsonville, Gilroy, Hollister, Campbell and Seaside.

  • M 5.5 moderate deep earthquake in Hindu Kush Region, Afghanistan (@ 105 km depth) with epicenter located 29 km SW of Khorugh (Tajikistan). Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Khorugh, Jarm, Ishkashim, Ashkasham and Faizabad. People of Khandud, Rostaq, Kulob, Vose, Taloqan and Farkhor.

  • M4.6 moderate earthquake in New Guinea, Papua New Guinea with epicenter located 52 km ESE of Ambunti. It will have just faintly felt by the people of Wewak, Mount Hagen and Mendi.

Volcanic Activity List
  • Philippines/Taal recent volcanic activity
    -Three volcanic tremors recorded in Taal Volcano.
    -Volcano is under Alert Level 1.

Flooding List
  • Flooding in Malda, India
    -Three people reported to be killed in Malda flood.
    -A red alert issued by the state irrigation department in an area close to the Fulahar river in Malda.
    -At least 15,000 people affected by the flood. The water is following above normal level in Fulohar and the Mahananda river.
    -Twenty families displaced by soil erosion in Ratua. The disaster happened in the area where irrigation department was repairing an embankment.
    -Malda region was heavily flooded by the waves of the rivers Ganges, Mahananda, Fulahar and Kalindri in 1998 too.
  • Flooding in Limestone, Alabama
    -A flash flood warning issued for east-central Limestone County by the National Weather Service in Huntsville.
    -Limestone is a county of the U.S. state of Alabama, and is included in the Huntsville Metropolitan Area.

Tropical Cyclone List
  • Tropical Depression Khanun
    -As of 01:00 UTC, TD Khanun was located 15 nm south of seoul, south Korea.
    -A man died in Sangju, North Gyeongsang Province of South Korea when parts of a house collapsed as the ground washed away due to rain.
    -Strong winds delayed more than 100 planes at Incheon, Gimpo and Jeju airports.
    -Typhoon Khanun caused131 mm of rainfall in Incheon, 98 in Suncheon, 75 in Seoul and 53 in Jeju.
  • Post-Tropical Cyclone Fabio
    -As of 01:00 UTC, TC Fabio was located 685 km SW of Punta baja, Mexico and a 855 km SSW of San Diego, California.
    -The Post-tropical cyclone is expected to dissipate in a couple of days.

Natural Disaster News
  • Wildfire in Povoa de Santa Iria, Portugal
    -Five major wildfires reported across Portugal with three in the north and in Povoa de Santa Iria near Lisbon.
    -Dozens of people evacuated in Madeira.
    -However no death or serous injuries reported.
  • Thunderstorms in Circleville, West Virginia
    -Dangerous thunderstorm warning issued for York and James City counties and Gloucester.
    -Circleville is an unincorporated community located in Pendleton County, West Virginia, USA.
