Recent Natural Disasters
  • Flooding in North Bengal, India

    North_Bengal_flood_recent_natural_disasters
    -More than 2,000 people displaced after flash floods hit North Bengal of India. One person is reported to be missing in Magurmari.
    -Water is at danger levels in Teesta, Jaldhaka and Torsha rivers. These rivers have their origin in Bhutan.
    -Following disaster management officials, Jalpaiguri districts has received 40mm, 102 mm and 81 mm rainfall. Heavy rainfall recorded in Darjeeling and Cooch Bihar too.
    -Kolkata and other parts of south Bengal is expected to get rain by Wednesday.

  • M 4.5 moderate earthquake in Coquimbo, Chile (@ 67 km depth) with epicenter located 46 km NW of Illapel. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Salamanca, Ovalle and Monte Patria.

  • M 4.1 light shallow earthquake in Estado De Mexico, Mexico (@ 79 km depth) with epicenter located just 5 km W of Ayotusco. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Ixtapan de la Sal, Tejupilco de Hidalgo and Taxco de Alarcon.

    Update
    M 4.6 moderate earthquake in Guerrero, Mexico (@ 21 km depth) with epicenter located 11 km E of Tecoanapa. It will have well felt by the people of Ometepec, Santiago Pinotepa Nacional and San Marcos.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake in Tarapaca, Chile (@ 94 km depth) with epicenter located 124 km E of Iquique. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Arica, Colchani and Uyuni (Bolivia).

  • M 3.2 weak shallow earthquake in Portugal (@ 6 km depth) with epicenter located 7 km SW Tondela. It will have well felt by the people of Viseu and Coimbra.

Volcanic Activity List
  • Indonesia/Mount Merapi recent volcanic activity
    -Emission of high-pressure gas in Mount Merapi caused the collapse of crater wall.
    -According to officials at Volcanic Technology Development and Research Center (BPPTK), "Mount Merapi’s status remains normal because there was no dangerous volcanic activity"
    -The recent incident was due to the accumulation of gas produced by the volcano’s magma.
    -Ash rain observed in Purwosari hamlet, Ngablak village.

Flooding List
  • Flooding in Shamakhi, Azerbaijan
    -Heavy rains caused flood in the rivers of Shamakhi of Azerbaijan.
    -One house was destroyed in Minakhor village of Shamakhi.
    -Flood caused damage in Talishnuru, Damirchi, Zarat, Kheybari, Galeybugurd, Sis, Keshmadin and Galaderesi villages.
  • Flooding in Assam, India
    -Death toll from Assam floods has risen to 109.
    -At least 400,000 people became homeless in the northeastern state of Assam.

Tropical Cyclone List
  • Tropical Storm Khanun
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Khanun was located 186 nm east of Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan.
    -Khanun (Enteng) is forecast to bring scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms in Southern Luzon and Visayas region of Philippines.
    -Khanun is the seventh tropical storm formed at the West Pacific Ocean this year.
  • Tropical Storm Fabio
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Fabio was located 1125 km WSW of the southern tip of Baja California.
    -Fabio is expected to become a depression today (Tuesday).

Natural Disaster News
  • Thunderstorm and lightning in Morang, Nepal
    -
    Three killed after being struck by lightning in Morang district of Eastern Nepal.
  • Wildfire in San Luis Obispo, California
    -About 50 homes in San Luis Obispo County evacuated due to wildfire. Fire has burned 640-acre so far.
    -More than 200 firefighters are currently battling the blaze. The fire is 20 percent contained.
