Lightning in Siraha kills girl, 14

A 14-year-old girl died Thursday afternoon when lightning hit her, Nepal based Ujyalo Online reported. Lightning hit the girl in farm in Chandrodaya region of Siraha. She was a S.L.C student from Chandrodaya Secondary School. Girl died in the way to Lahan hospital. Lightning in Siraha in June 2013 had claimed lives of a mother and her daughter. Lightning strikes kill 5 women in Uttar Pradesh, India

Five women were killed after being struck by lightning in separate incidents in Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh, India. Two were killed in Jafarpur Mahava and Chak Guraini villages in Manjhanpur area whereas two others were hit by lightning in Lohkatia and Saidpur Ali villages, IBN Live reported. Lightning in Lodhaur village claimed life of a 12 years old girl. Earlier in May 2013, lightning in Uttar Pradesh had claimed lives of eight people. India lacks proper lightning protection systems. Switzerland storm 2013 kills 1, more than 29,000 lightning strikes recorded

Heavy storm in the canton of Zurich, Switzerland has claimed life of a man. Around 29,155 lightning flashes hit within four hours, the Local reported quoting the television weather service SRF Meteo. Storm damages have been reported in Zurich region and eastern Switzerland. Winds of more than 100 km/hr hit the Zurich and St Gallen areas. Railway services have been also affected including Lausanne-Geneva rail line. Lightning storm in Germany Lightning storm in Bavaria, Germany killed 250 piglets, The local reported. Dolakha, Nepal lightning claims 1, injures 36

Lightning strike in Dolakha, Nepal has claimed life of one person and injured thirty six others. Lightning struck Bigu-7 in Dolakha district Monday night. The injured people are having treatment at local health institutions,The Himalayan Times reported. Lightning in Nepal claimed lives of five people, including 2 kids in March 2013. Arizona lightning claims 2 lives

Lightning in Arizona has claimed lives of two people and injured a teenage. A lightning bolt hit a married couple and the boy at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the LeFevre Scenic Outlook, Arizona. Injured boy is not associated with the dead couple. According to the Encyclopedia of World Climatology, lightning happens about 40–50 times per second worldwide. Flash flooding, lightning damage across England and Scotland

Flash flooding and lightning damages have been reported across England and Scotland today. Lightning damaged several buildings including a historic church near Bury, Greater Manchester. Lightning also damaged a signalling system in Manchester Piccadilly station. Lightning strikes affecting signals disrupted train services in Scotland. Harrisonburg lightning injures 3

Lightning strike in Harrisonburg, United States has injured at least three people. Lightning occurred around 2 p.m on the 200 block of Green Street, WHSV-TV3 reported. Following the Harrisonburg Police department, the three people were in a tree when lightning struck. Injured people are having treatment at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Lightning strike in France has claimed life of a person and injured one other, The local reported. Lightning hit a beachgoer near Saint Tropez in Riviera. The bolt of lightning claimed life of a person a week before too in Pietricaggio in Corsica, France. Lightning strikes in Colorado and Montana injure 13

At least 13 people are reported to injured in different lightning strikes in Colorado and Montana region. Lightning strike in Colorado farm has injured at least nine people with two of them in critically condition. Another lightning strike near a trail head in Rocky Mountain National Park injured a 65-years-old woman. She is having treatment at Estes Park Medical Center. Lightning strikes in Glacier National Park, Montana injured two adults and a child. They are having treatment at Kalispell hospital. About 500 lightning strikes were recorded in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho two days ago. According to CO Weather Forecast Office, approximately 494,000 cloud to ground lightning flashes occur in Colorado every year and 1 out of every 52 lightning flash results in a lightning insurance claim. About 500 lightning strikes in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho

About 500 lightning strikes hit Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho overnight. Trace of rains have been recorded with thunderstorms relatively high above 10,000 feet, Komo News reported. There are no wildfires reports from the dry lightning. The National Weather Service had issued a severe thunderstorm warning plus hail for parts of Grant and Lincoln counties in Eastern Washington. However, Red Flag Warnings and Fire Weather Watches continues for areas in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, California, and Nevada. A Red Flag Warning is the highest wildfire alert. Elviira, Finland's biggest storm in century brings 28,000 lightning strikes

Finland weather warning map; FMI Finland has been hit by biggest storm in century combined with more than 28,000 lightning strikes. According to Yle, so called Elviira storm is the biggest storm in Finland this century. The all-time lightning strikes record in Finland was 40,000 on June 29, 1988. Luckily no serious storm damage has been reported. The Finnish Meteorological Institute had earlier issued the emergency warning on severe thunderstorms in Central Finland, Southern Ostrobothnia and Central Ostrobothnia. According to the Finnish Meteorological Institute, emergency warnings were issued on the radio channels of the Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle) and on commercial radio channels operating under a long-term licence. 3 children struck by lightning in Kalaiya, Nepal

Lightning has claimed lives of three children below age 10 in Kalaiya, Bara Nepal. Lightning struck them in Kalaiya-13, Baidhyanathpur as they were out around 7:45 am Saturday morning. Bodies have been send to Kalaiya Hospital for postmortem. Original post: Natural Disasters List June 22, 2013

Lightning claims 6 lives in Parsa and Siraha

Lightning in Nepal has claimed lives of at least six people and injured two others. Four people died in Parsa and two others in Siraha districts of Nepal. Lightning hit when people were taking shelter inside a shed during a heavy rain in Parsa. One person who is said to be in critical condition is currently undergoing treatment at Birgunj hospital. In another lightning disaster in Siraha, two people were killed in the mango farm. A mother and her daughter were hit by lightning at Sukhachaina VDC of the district. Massive flooding in the Mahakali River wreaked havoc in Khalanga, the district headquarters of Darchula making 53 families homeless. A red flag has been placed and an emergency has been declared. Lightning in Bulgaria kills 1, injures 2

Lightning near the Bulgarian town of Gotse Delchev, Southern Bulgaria has claimed life of a woman and injured two others. Thunderstorm and lightning hit them as they were taking shelter from the rain under a tree. Injured people are having treatment in a hospital in Sofia. They are out of danger. Lightning kills 2 in Baglung, Nepal

Lightning strike in Baglung, Nepal has claimed lives of at least two people, Baglung Police reported. Around nine people have been injured in the district out of which three are in critical condition. Injured people are having treatment at Burtibang Primary Health Center. Landslide in Dudilabhati area has damaged Ghodabadhe-Dudilabhati road section. A bridge at Lasti along Beni-Maldhunga road section has also been washed away by flood water. Lightning strikes kill 27 in Bihar, India

Lightning strikes in Bihar, India have claimed lives of at least 27 people including women and children, Disaster Management Department said. A total of 27 including six children and three women died in last 24 hours by bolts of lightning across Bihar. Fatalities are from Nalanda (6), Aurangabad (6), Rohtas (4), Shekhpura (3), Nawada (3), Gaya (2), Bhojpur (2) and Kaimur (1) districts of India. The state disaster management ministry has announced a compensation of Rs. 1.5 lakh each to the victims. Lightning strikes are common in Bihar during this season. At least twelve people died in lightning strikes in Madhya Pradesh, India in March 2013. Another lightning strikes in Uttar Pradesh claimed lives of eight people. Germany lightning injures 39 on Father’s Day

A lightning strike in Germany has injured at least 39 people with eight in serious condition, Germany based The Focus reports. Lightning hit near Dabel in Mecklenburg Western-Pomerania. About 500 people were at the fairground in Dabel east of Schwerin celebrating Father’s Day party when lightning struck. Most of the people suffered burns and shocks. Lightning strikes in Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh has claimed lives of at least four people, Bangladesh based BdNews24.com reports. one-hour storm damaged 100 houses in Konaur village of Kaitala.
