Typhoon Noul kills 2 in Philippines

Typhoon Noul (local name: Dodong) has claimed lives of at least two people in Philippines and forced evacuations of thousands others. Typhoon Noul entered the Philippine area of Responsibility on May 7 forcing the evacuation of around 2,500 people in Northern Luzon.

Typhoon Maysak (Chedeng) kills 12 in Philippines and FSM

Super Typhoon Maysak (Chedeng) has claimed lives of 12 people affecting Yap and Chuuk State in the Federated States of Micronesia, as well as the Philippines. Maysak is responsible for widespread destruction and five deaths in the Federated States of Micronesia . Seven people died and 26 injured during the celebration of Easter Week in Philippines, ABC News reported. However, officials have not decided whether the deaths were related to the approaching storm.

Typhoon Ruby in Mindoro, Philippines

Update 08:15 UTC According to the Philippine National Red Cross, at least 21 people have been dead, many of them drowned as flood waters rose in Borongan, the main town in Eastern Samar. Typhoon Ruby is predicted to make its third landfall over Northern Mindoro between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday. The government is bracing for Ruby in Metro Manila as well as in Mindoro and Calabarzon as the center of Typhoon Ruby was located 20 km East of Torrijos, Marinduque at 10 a.m. (local time).

Super Typhoon Hagupit (Ruby) threatens Philippines

Super Typhoon Hagupit (Local name "Typhoon Ruby" is currently the second most intense tropical cyclone in 2014 which is heading towards Philippines. At 10:00 a.m. today (local time), the center of Typhoon Hagupit was located based on all available data at 860 km East of Surigao City, Official Gazette of the Republic of the Philippines mentioned. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast is expected over Luzon and eastern section of Visayas and of Mindanao. According to the GMA News, the Philippine government sent food and medical supplies to central provinces in the path of Hagupit on Wednesday.  AFP units/soldiers are preparing for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response in coordination with LGUs, DSWD and other line govt agencies. According to the US Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), Tropical storm Hagupit has now developed into a typhoon with sustained winds of 130 km/h. The US Joint Typhoon Warning Center has captured the typhhon Hagupit in open ocean east of Palau.

Landslides triggered by Typhoon Kalmaegi kill 7 in Vietnam

Landslides triggered by Typhoon Kalmaegi have claimed lives of at least seven people in Lang Son’s Dong Dang Town of Vietnam. According to the Asian Correspondent, about 55,000 people in four northern coastal provinces were evacuated ahead of the storm.

Update 2014/08/11, 14:05 UTC According to The Japan Times, Tyhoon Halong has claimed lives of at least 10 people. Typhoon Halong has now weakened into an extra-tropical depression in the Sea of Japan.

Tornado in Maguindanao, Philippines destroys houses

Tornado in Maguindanao, Philippines has destroyed dozen of houses and three school buildings, The Philippine Star reported. According to the municipal disaster risk reduction and management council of South Upi,  the tornado that struck Barangay Kigan has also flattened more than two hectares of corn planted on hilly areas.

Typhoon Neoguri in Okinawa kills 1, more than 500,000 urged to evacuate

Typhoon Neoguri has claimed life of a person and urged more than 500,000 people to evacuate in Okinawa region of Japan. More than 50,000 households in Okinawa have lost power. Japan Meteorological Agency has issued an emergency storm surge warning early Tuesday for Miyako island and adjacent islets in Japan's southernmost prefecture of Okinawa. Typhoon Neoguri is expected to make landfall at Kyushu area in southwest Japan on Thursday. According to the US's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Typhoon Neoguri is expected to be the most powerful typhoon to hit Okinawa island in Japan in 15 years. World's strongest Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) kills 4,000 in Philippines!

The world's most powerful typhoon this year is expected to cross the central Philippines as a very powerful typhoon. The JTWC has analyzed Haiyan to be the most intense tropical cyclone worldwide since reliable records began, with one-minute maximum sustained winds estimated at 315 km/h (195 mph) with gusts up to 362 km/h (235 mph). Typhoon Krosa: 1 killed in Philippines, disaster relief alert issued in China

Flash flood brought from Typhoon Krosa (PAGASA name: Vinta) has claimed life a person in northern part of Philippines. Typhoon Krosa made landfall over the northern Cagayan area in northern part of the Philippines. China Disaster Reduction Commission and the Ministry of Civil Affairs has issued a disaster relief alert and urged local civil authorities to prepare for emergencies. Heavy rainstorm has been forecast in the east of Hainan and central coastal Guangdong between Saturday and Monday, Xinhua reported. The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarter has announced a fourth-level emergency in China. Krosa is the 29th typhoon to hit China this year. Typhoon Fitow leaves 5 dead in China

At least five people have died, and four others have been missing as Typhoon Fitow hit east China's Zhejiang Province, Xinhua reported. Two men died in Wenzhou city in Zhejiang province while three people died in the city of Ruian because of electric shocks. Typhoon Fitow has affected over 3 million people in eight cities of Zhejiang, causing direct economic damage of 2.28 billion yuan, according to the provincial flood control office. About 56 bullet trains and 20 flights have been cancelled in Fujian. The National Meteorological Centre (NMC) has issued a red alert for Typhoon Fitow which is named after a flower from Micronesia. Emergency officials have warned more rainfall from Fitow along with the approaching Typhoon Danas. Typhoon Fitow, the 23rd typhoon to hit China this year , made landfall in Fujian on early Monday. Typhoon Fitow has caused direct economic damage of 2.28 billion yuan, according to the provincial flood control office. Hangzhou International Airport has canceled 22 flights on Monday. Typhoon Wutip kills 3, injures 35 in Vietnam

Typhoon Wutip has claimed lives of at least three people and injured 35 others in Vietnam, Xinhua reported. According to the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control, all fatalities are from Quang Binh province of central Vietnam while the other 35 injured people are from Ha Tinh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces. Typhoon Wutip leaves 74 missing in China, Thailand, Vietnam prepare flooding

At least seventy-four fishermen have been missing after typhoon Wutip sunk three fishing boats in the South China Sea. Rescuers however rescued 14 other fisherman from the boats which were sailing from the southern province of Guangdong, Xinhua reported. At least 10 ships and six planes have been involved in rescue operations. More than 8,000 villagers in Quang Tri province of Vietnam have been moved to safe ground. Typhoon Man-yi hits Japan, 200 flights cancelled, fears for Fukushima plant

Update 15:55 UTC Landslide triggered by Typhoon Man-yi has claimed life of a woman. Landslide hit the two-story house in Ritto City in Shiga prefecture of Japan, Nippon Hoso Kyokai (NHK) said. At least 200 domestic flights have been cancelled as Typhoon Man-yi hit southern Japan. With torrential rains expected on Monday, contaminated water is feared to seep into the groundwater at Fukushima nuclear plant. Typhoon Man-yi will hit direct southern parts of the main island Honshu on Monday morning, possibly around 9 am in Shizuoka prefecture, southwest of Tokyo, according to the  Japan Meteorological Agency. Typhoon Utor in China kills 3

Update 23:05 UTC Death toll from Typhoor Utor in Southern China has risen to three, Xinhua said. Five people are still reported to be missing. Typhoon Utor in China has claimed lives of at least one people and left five others missing, Xinhua reported. Typhoon Utor made landfall in a township in Yangxi county in the city of Yangjiang in western Guangdong province of China. Dam of hydropower station in Gaozhou, Guangdong province of China also collapsed. Several flights were cancelled in Hongkong and Stock exchange trading was also cancelled. Typhoon Utor has already claimed lives of six people in Philippines before it made landfall in China.
