Landslides triggered by Typhoon Kalmaegi have claimed lives of at least seven people in Lang Son’s Dong Dang Town of Vietnam.
According to the Asian Correspondent, about 55,000 people in four northern coastal provinces were evacuated ahead of the storm.
The storm collapsed seven houses and 20 electricity poles, blew off 147 roofs and destroyed more than 5,000 hectares of paddy and other crops in the province, Thanh Nien Daily News mentioned following the statistics released by the Quang Ninh Steering Committee for Natural Disasters Prenvetion and Control.
Typhoon Kalmaegi caused about VND20 billion (US$944,000) worth of damage as it battered the northern-eastern Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam News reported quoting the provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control.
Typhoon Kalmaegi made landfall in Quang Ninh Province's Mong Cai Town on Tuesday evening.
The storm has weakened as a tropical low-pressure system after hitting the northern mountainous areas, the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting said.
