Storm warning for Gulf of Thailand; alert from Feb 5-9, 2016

The northeasterly monsoon is expected to bring rainstorm and heavy seas in Gulf of Thailand from Feb 5-9, 2016 forcing the disaster prevention and mitigation teams to be on alert in nine southern provinces. The nine provinces are Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat, The Bangkok Post has written quoting Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department chief Chatchai Promlert .

Powerful storm in Southern California kills 1; thousands without power

John Gastaldo/The San Diego Union-Tribune  A powerful Pacific storm in southern California claimed life of a person, knocking out power to thousands in San Diego. "A large oak tree fell during Sunday’s storm crushed a car in Pacific Beach, killing a woman inside across Ingraham Street near Fortuna Avenue about 3:15 p.m.," The San Diego Union-Tribune reported quoting San Diego-Fire Rescue Capt. Joe Amador.

Severe storm in Sydney kills 1, disrupts flights

Source: CareFlight via ABC News Severe storm in Sydney has claimed life of at least one person and injured another Thursday afternoon. The man died after his car, travelling on the Great Western Highway, was crushed by a large tree at Emu Plains in the city's west, Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported quoting New South Wales Ambulance Inspector Murray Traynor.

Lightning storm causes crane collapse at Mecca's Grand Mosque — 107 killed, 200 more injured

A crane collapse caused by lightning storm at Mecca's Grand Mosque of Saudi Arabia has claimed lives of at least 107 people and injured 238 others. Aljazeera has quoted the Saudi Press Agency, a spokesperson for the two holy mosques as saying that the crane was brought down by strong wind and heavy rain.

Tropical Storm Ignacio targets Hawaiian islands; Forecast to become hurricane on Thursday

A tropical depression in the East Pacific has strengthened into Tropical Storm Ignacio, which is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane later this week as it moves in a west to eventually west-northwest direction.  According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Ignacio was located 2,460km ESE of Hilo, Hawaii  at 2:00 pm PDT (21:00 UTC).

Tropical Storm Erika moving towards Leeward Islands; Tropical Storm Watches Issued

Tropical Storm Erika which formed late Monday night in the central Atlantic is moving towards the west near 20 mph (31 km/h).  At 11:00 am AST (15:00 UTC), Tropical Storm Erika was located 1,170 km E of the Leeward Islands . Erika is expected to remain a tropical storm and gather strength as it moves quickly to the west, National Hurricane Center (NHC) mentioned.

Tropical storm Nangka kills 2, injures 38 in Japan — 550,000 told to flee

Weather Warnings/Advisories issued by Japan Meteorological Agency at 19:51 JST A powerful tropical storm Nangka has claimed lives of at least two people and injured 38 in Japan. Evacuation orders and recommendations issued to some 555,000 people, The Japan Times reported. A 71-year-old  man was found dead on Thursday in Awaji island, Hyogo Prefecture. Another 85-year-old man was also found dead Thursday night in Shiso, in Hyogo Prefecture. Tropical storm Nangka made landfall near Cape Muroto on Shikoku island late Thursday with packing gusts up to 126 kilometers per hour. According to The Weather Channel , Nangka was the equivalent of a Category 1 tropical cyclone on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale at landfall.

Thunderstorm in Bachok, Malaysia damages more than 30 houses

More than 30 houses have been damaged by the thunderstorm in Kampung Kubang Golok, Malaysian National News Agency Bernama reported. Heavy storm blew away roofs of the houses Saturday evening, forcing the occupants to spent the night at relatives or neighbours' houses.

3 dead as Tropical Depression Bill hammers central U.S.

Tropical Depression Bill, the second named storm of the 2015 Atlantic hurricane season, has claimed lives of atleast three people in central United States. Heavy flooding in Oklahoma swept away a 2-year-old toddler. One person died in Missouri and a woman died in central Texas when she lost control of her car while driving through the storm, Reuters reported.

Tropical depression Bill, the second named storm of the 2015 Atlantic hurricane season, is forecast to trigger widespread rainfall across East Texas and Oklahoma. The National Weather Service has warned of life-threatening flash floods. Significant flooding is expected across central and eastern Texas and into southern Oklahoma through Wednesday night.

Storm in Hanoi, Vietnam kills two

Heavy storm in Hanoi,  the capital of Vietnam, has claimed lives of at least two people and injured four others. Two people died after being crushed by falling trees while driving their motorbikes on Minh Khai and Nguyen Du streets in Hai Ba Trung District, Thanh Nien News reported.
